Need Opinion -3 Hotel Options - Marco/Sanibel/Naples
Three tired, cold, 30-ish, Boston-area folks and are taking a few days off to rejuvinate. I have narrowed the list of hotels to 3 and need some opinions from folks who know the area. All are in the same price range
Other than a day trip to Red Sox spring training Camp, we are content to stay put and sleep by the pool! All thoughts are welcome. Thanks.
1. The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club
2. Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa
3. Marco Island Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa

I would rule out Sanibel Harbour. It's not on the gulf...not even on the island, but across the causeway on the mainland.
Haven't stayed at either of the other two hotels, but LOVE Naples and would choose most any hotel in that city for the terrific restaurants, great shopping (should you need to get away from the pool ), and most picturesque area.

I agree, I would not stay at the Sanibel Harbour Resort either. It is not on Sanibel and if you really want to relax I would choose somewhere to stay on Sanibel. Sanibel is just lovely and so laid back. There are so many great places to stay. We love Casa Ybel and have heard wonderful things about Sundial and Tween Waters (on Captiva). Great restaurants and shops too.
If you do a search here on Sanibel you will find great info. Good Luck.
Have a great time!

I agree - why not stay on Sanibel? If you absolutely must pick from your three choices, then I'd definitely go with Naples - great hotel, nice area, lots to do. Marco Island is much more sleepy and I just can't see staying across the causeway from Sanibel.

the Naples and Marco accomodations are both lovely. If you want more night life, even easy nightlife, I'd go with naples - South St, etc -
plus more to do if weather is iffy - don't know when you are going. That might make it a bit warmer on the beach of marco vs. naples, but it depends on time of year.

We are actually going NEXT WEEK. I need to book something Today! So difficult to find a clean comfortable place at a good price.
Beach-front access is key. Thinking Naples now. Suggestions still welcome

and you are also bumping into college break and private high school breaks, so that might be why you are finding difficult booking for next week. Many vacations begin week of March 10 and out over the next 3 weeks.

You're thinking about a beach front place a week before you come in the height of season? Good luck, most decent places were sold out for now months ago!
Have you checked? Do any of these have availability? I talked with a salesman two days ago who couldn't get a room in Naples at even the Comfort and Hampton Inn type places 20 miles inland, so had to drive north to Bonita.
But for the record, the first one I'd avoid is Sanibel Harbour Resort -- as it is not on or really even near a true beach.

mciolino,
Have only stayed on Sanibel so here are a few suggestions. Most if not all are located on the beach.
Casa Ybel, Pointe Santo, Sundial, Sanibel Inn, and Sanibel Cottages.
Good Luck, I am sure you will find something it might just take some searching. Not sure if you are going to get a "good price". This is definetely high season in Florida.

We have gone to the Sanibel Harbour Resort and to the Marco Island Marriott Resort, both are very nice but I would choose the Marco Marriott. It is right on the beach and the rooms are beautiful and spotless. All rooms have a balcony and even if on the side you can see the ocean. The beach there is much wider than Sanibel and I found nicer seashells than on Sanibel, I was really surprised. We drove down to Naples to visit friends and it only took 20 minutes. Marco Island has a lot of shopping and very nice places to eat. A great place to relax. We took a dinner cruise on the Marco Princess Sunset Cruise--was great. Have a great trip wherever you go.

We've been to both Marco Island and Sanibel. Both places are enjoyable and different.
I really like the Marco Island Marriott Resort -- the beach is very nice.
It's been a while since our visit to Sanibel -- we stayed at Casa Y'bel, in a two bedroom unit. But for some reason I thought I had read that they closed for renovations. I might be wrong on that.
