Need Mid-Point Boston/Toronto to meet up with friend....
Hello
I am interested in hearing about a good mid point (or as close as possible) area for me and my friend to meet at. She will be driving from Toronto and myself Boston.
We are looking for a safe area for two women. An area that is pretty much easy to get to from the highway.
We are interested in some nightlife, dining, shopping, touring and anything else that may be offered.
Looking to do this May or June timeframe.
Your suggestions would be mostly appreciated. Thank you.

there is a Resort Casino called Turning Stone in Verona NY... It is just off the NYS Thruway and offers amazing rooms, spa, restaurants, shopping, concerts, golf as well as gaming... check out www.turningstone.com
It is 7 miles longer for you to drive than her... but she has a slight delay at customs...

It would be further from you but I'd love to do a winery trip in the Finger Lakes region -

I don't have specific recommendations. It's just something I want to do and would be a good "girlfriend" trip.

I'd like to suggest Skaneateles NY. The town is quaint and meets all your criteria. It sits at the base of Skaneateles Lake which is one of the Finger Lakes. The Mirbeau Inn would be somewhere you could get some pampering. The shopping is great. It's one of those nearby towns in CNY that people like to take day trips to and shop / eat lunch. I would imagine wine tasting would be very nearby as well if you are interested. Check out their website:

Also- this may be closer for your friend coming from Boston but I think it's a great recommendation considering your criteria.
Alexandria Bay NY. Beautiful town on Lake Ontario. Plenty of shopping, restaurants and nightlife. You could also take the Boat tour to Boldt Castle. It would make for a memorable weekend trust me. I love Bonnie Castle for lodging. Their dining room overlooks the St. Lawrence River with a view of Boldt Castle. A lot of people I know also like Captain Thompson's and The Riveredge for lodging. Bonnie Castle has a really cool bar called the Rum Runner. It's is built into a rock ledge.

My last suggestion would be a small charming town called Baldwinsville NY. I would recommend staying at The Red Mill Inn on Papermill Island. It was an old paper mill and it's been renovated into a charming Inn. The rooms are all unique. Papermill Island is right on the Erie Canal. I've stayed there twice. Love the place. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants and bars all within walking distance. There is an awesome shop called Cottage Designs right in town. It has several consignment shops within the store itself but the best part about this place is the restaurant. It's called Olives. The food is all fresh prepared and the outside dining area is like a European cafe. I would also recommend The Lock 24 restaurant. It sits right at the base of Lock 24 on the Erie Canal. Right behind the Red Mill Inn sits and Amphitheater that has weekly concerts. I'd be willing to bet Baldwinsville has a good website. I know The Red Mill Inn does.
Hope this helps.
