We have 8 days, Sept 15 - 22, before flying back home on the 9th day, Sept 23. Fly into/out of Jackson. Need some help planning itinerary--trying to make best use of time, not backtrack more than necessary, etc. Staying at Canyon in Yellowstone 1st 2 nights because it will be closed after that. Here's what I have so far:
Day 1, arrive around noon, pick up rental car, drive to Yellowstone, stay nights 1 & 2 in Yellowstone, Canyon Village.
Day 2, Yellowstone, overnight Canyon Village
Day 3, Beartooth Parkway (not sure right now whether to do a loop drive and come back same day, or stay overnight at a point in between.)
Day 4
Day 5
Day 6
Day 7, drive to GTNP, overnight . . . Signal Mtn, Jackson Lake, Flagg Ranch . . . not sure
Day 8, GTNP, overnight same as above,
Day 9, Fly home
Thanks for your advice and suggestions!
Need itinerary help, Yellowstone/GTNP

I probably didn't give enough info, but I have other posts here. I guess I'm trying to decide about making the loop into 2 days as opposed to a long, full day (that's what is proposed at the Cody website). If the Beartooth happens to be closed due to weather, I'll need a plan B, or maybe not--will any lodging be available spur of the moment in Yellowstone at that time of year?

Have to decide where to stay for free nights in Yellowstone--possible night 4, and 5 & 6 definitely. Trying to consider hikes, places we want to visit--thinking maybe 1 night Mammoth area, 2 night Old Faithful area.
As alway, thanks folks!
