Need info on Tenn., MIssissippi and Louisianna.

Hello all,

Sister and I considering a trip in 2010 to Memphis, Vicksburg, Natchez and New Orleans. When would be a good time to go? Fewer people would be great, normally decent weather without hurricanes, not too hot and humid- asking too much? Easter is April 24 next year. How is New ORleans during Lent, after Mardi Gras? Would restaurants be open or is that when they close for a break? Would love charming, moderately priced accommodations in all these areas, under $125 preferred -- Ideas?

How about historic houses to visit? open year-round? Plantations, etc. Is Natchez during Pilgrimage horribly crowded?

Looks like the Spring Pilgrimage is March 6th - April 10th. I would plan on going the last part of March or the very first week of April. Fat Tuesday is Feb. 16th. I have been in NOLA during Lent and I don't think you will find anything closed. Visited Natchez during Spring Break and it was not crowded at all. Loved it. We drove from Nashville to NOLA and stopped at Vicksburg, Natchez, Baton Rouge, Oxford and did the Mississippi Delta road to Memphis on our return. It was a great trip.

New Orleans is great anytime in April. Just remember that the last weekend in April is Jazzfest so unless you specifically want to see that, you may want to pick another weekend. Everything is opened in New Orleans during Lent - the only time places close is on Christmas Day that I know of.

March and April are some of the busiest months of the year in New Orleans with many great festivals.

French Quarter Fest is April 9-11 in 2010. The festival is free, but it is very crowded.

Jazz Fest is the last weekend in April and first weekend in May.

The weekends before and after March 17 &19 are also filled with St. Patrick's Day and St. Josephs' Day parades/events.

When you check hotel prices, you'll know if something is going on. Coming during midweek will get you fewer crowds and lower prices.

Thanks for the info so far. Easter is April 4, not 24 like my message said. Pesky things, those typos. I had a stroke 5 months ago and still have to hunt and peck one-handed. Hopefully this won't last forever.

I'll check NOLA event calendar so I'll know when not to go.

All info is very much appreciated.
