Hello everyone!
It looks like we might travel to St. Louis to visit St. Louis University/Parks College. Since we have never been there, could you suggest areas of the city to stay in or hotels that would be convenient to that...or areas we should avoid. We would like to use the metro for transportation...I saw where it travels to/from the airport. Unfortunately, it is going to be an extremely quick visit if we go, so sightseeing is going to be very limited. As you can probably tell, I haven't a clue about the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We just took our first trip to St. Louis last summer. I probably would need to know what you are interested in before I could suggest anything. Are you interested in the Cardinals? and how many days will you have?
KB
There's just been a posting about St. Louis. I would suggest the usual on line search for motels and rates. Not so sure on public transportation except that metro from airport to downtown which is fine.
As for must see sites, the zoo is great and art museum in Forest Park, also botanical gardens (which may be a bit off the track). Certainly folks go to the Arch and Cathedral nearby.

Thank you both for your replies. KB-our trip would be so short, sightseeing would be minimum...arrive one day, see college the next, go home following day. We were thinking about the end of June and the Cardinals will not be home. Otherwise a game would have been a must. If you don't mind my asking, where did you stay (if it was a hotel) and were you happy with it? Bill - thanks for info. that metro from airport is fine. We would like to see the Arch and Cathedral. We are still up in the air about visiting or just having him apply, see if he gets accepted, and then visiting. Thanks for your help.
Consider going with Priceline or Hotwire, either Clayton-Forest Park or downtown, 3.5 - 4 star.
If you can swing the Chase Hotel financially, that's quite a nice place within maybe 10 min walk to metrolink and convenient to SLU. SLU isn't handy by metro now because the Grand station is torn up. Metro- bus combo works, during the day especially. I take public transport a lot, and like it.

There's a fun Moonrise Hotel near the Delmar Loop, walking distance to a metro stop that can be a tad iffy at night.
I agree about the Chase! Sometimes they have great offers. It is in a great area to walk around for dinner and some unusual boutiques. Forest park is practically across the street. There is a very nice theatre in the Chase Park Plaza as well if you are hot and tired and just want to relax!
There are new Hampton Inn right off I 64 near Forest Park - it usually get good reviews. The school will be with in 10 min drive.
I also agree about the Moonrise Hotel - I heard someone recetnly get a room there for $90. It is a cool new hip hotel with an amazing roof top bar!
The Cathedral is in walking distance of the Chase Park Plaza!
