Here is a map/chart that might help in planning. It was posted by another fodorite a while ago:
http://ohiohickstraveltips.weebly.co...-utah-map.html
We've done several trips to the area and you can find TRs of some if you click my screen name and scroll down. happytrailstoyou and sharondi have also done TRs so click their names too. You can get information on lodging, hikes, places to eat, how much time we've spent and what our travel style is.
We've flown into Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Denver and Phoenix depending on where we want to focus, cost of air fare, car, timing of flights etc. You can also check Salt Lake city.

-Are you a road tour only (window down, video camera out - this is actually true)?
-Backpacker?
-No hikes of any kind?
- Short hikes with no elevation change
-4-wheel drive?
-Age restrictions?
-Medical restrictions?
- What books have you researched?
- Children and age.
All that would be helpful.

four adults, 50-70, two teen boys, 17-19.
No backpacking, short hikes are fine
Rental van
First trip out west
Flying from Virginia
Not interested in cities
Boys like to fly fish
Interested in nature, history, culture
Mainly internet research
Need help in a route and number of days at each place

Ok - No serious hiking or backcountry 4-wheel driving.
Fly fishing
http://quietflyfisher.com/ - Click on Mountain Lakes. Boulder mountain is near Capitol Reef National Park. So the boys can fish while the adults tour the park. It is one of my favorite parks although most people ignore it. Hikes are easy to moderate. One strenuous hike up to Cassidy arch from the parking lot; other route is moderate.
There is only one series of books that combine travel and >> history

Have you done a query of this site? There are tons of requests just like yours with people having posted routes, etc. Plus trip reports. Take a look and then come back with some more questions. Foods does a good guide book on Utah, focusing on the big 5.
