I am moving to the St. Louis area the first week of July. I have posted questions regarding home locations, but I'll have to rent for a while - at least until my house in California is sold.
I haven't found any good websites/resources to locate apartments. Does anyone know the particular name of the real estate and rental guides in the St. Louis area? (I have the Real Estate Book).
I'd like to get this all squared away before I show up to live there!
Thanks!
P.S. I also considered trying to find a house that is vacant (that I would also like to purchase) and ask if the owners are willing to lease in this situation (until mine sells). Is this common? I am a first time homeowner now so the selling/moving combo is a new one for me.

You might get a better response if you narrow down the area of St. Louis you're interested in. Where will you work? St. Louis is a huge city and it's impossible to discuss finding a rental without knowing which neighborhood you want. My son and daughter-in-law lived in the Central West End, which is a very hip, interesting place near the hospitals on Kingshighway. It's filled with restaurants, shops and high-rise apartments and condos...it'd be a great place to live until you decide where to buy.
i was in the same boat five years ago and rented a townhouse in creve couer on a month to month basis, i am not sure if they do it anymore but used to be common that they would rent temporarily to new Monsanto employees and others. check out whispering hill in creve couer, telephone 314 434 5400, they might be able to give you info re general rental info.
Thank you for the replies. I don't have an exact area pinpointed yet - I am pretty flexible because this is temporary. We will buy a house as soon as we figure out the best location.
I hope I can find that month to month option. I will call Whispering Hill to see. Thank you very much for that specific info as that is exactly what I need. I checked online for at apartmentguide.com and that had a decent listing of choices. Most places seem to have a 6 month minimum, and they charge extra for that option (from $35 to $200/month!).
