Need good place to stay in Santa Cruz,CA

We are gong to visit our niece and need a good place to stay in or near Santa Cruz,CA. I've looked on line and can't really get a feel of places. We may head on down to Monterey and extend our visit to the area.

I stayed at the Dream Inn right near the Boardwalk and it was fantastic. The desk staff was great and the accomodations were really fun & different. We had a room with a sliding door that opened right onto the pool. We ordered food and drink from our lounge chairs at the pool.

We also stayed at the Hilton in Scotts Valley. That turned out to be a great stay as well. Rooms were nice, we hade a little patio/balcony. Flat screen tv in the room.

is it important to you to have ocean view or are you interested in just a place to sleep? Scotts Valley isn't right in Santa Cruz but you can usually depend on a Hilton. Dream Inn is nice and ocean front. There are many hotels/motels in Santa Cruz so narrowing your criteria would be helpful. Capitola is an alternative to Santa Cruz, quieter and lovely area just down the road from SC...

We really simply need a nice place for $150 or less a night. Our niece is at UCSC and we will be taking her and her girlfriend out to dinner. We don't want to drive all the way back to Oakland that night. We might want to drive on to Monterey for one more night before heading home(after staying in Santa Cruz).

How weird that all Shar came here to do was to comment on my recommendations. If I made others would we get another thumbs up or down again? Well here ya go...

Since Pam is from SF I assumed she knew Scotts Valley wasn't right in Santa Cruz, after all her request was for a place in or near Santa Cruz. Scotts Valley is pretty close.

I've also stayed at the Inn at Pasatiempo and I think that is in your price range. It's actually on 17 just before you get to Highway 1. We stayed there for my cousins wedding in Santa Cruz. Was convenient

Another choice is the very comfortable Best Western in Aptos which would be in your price range as well.
