Need Advice For Trip with 16year old son-
We will fly from NJ to Jacksonville to visit St Augustine-then drive to Savanna-then on to Charleston-then fly home from Atlanta. Right now it looks like my best flight options are to follow this path.
I was planning 3 days in St Augustine. I was also planning to maybe take a shuttle from airport to St. Augustine since it seems like parking is an issue...I can rent a car on last day...since it seems like most attractions are easy to get to via trolley or foot?
2 days in other cities...I could adjust if there is a recommendation of a "must see" option
My son LOVES history...need advice, suggestions to make the most of our time...also should we opt to stay "in town" ? St Augustine seems like in town hotels are for "romantic" getaways?
My plans are to make this trip at the end of August so I am trying to line things up in the next few days

I'm not an expert on the south, but I can tell you when we were in North Carolina a few years back my son loved Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown. Please drink lots of water and dress for humidity. We were there in July and the humidity was awful. Then again we are used to a dry heat.

I would do two days in St. Augustine, wven including arrival, 1.5 in Savannah, 3 in Charleston. Then I'm not sure you are including 2 in Atlanta or not.
You might check for flights back home (wherever that is) from Charlotte which would be a bit closer and charlotte is a big hub. You could consider a visit to Asheville for Biltmore House.
Jamestown and Williamsburg are in Virginia

You might want to reconsider wanting to not having a car and staying in the center of St Augustine. When I was there, I stayed in the Hampton Inn on A1A Beach Blvd which has a pool and is oceanfront (rooms even have balconies with an ocean view). It's only about 5 miles from the center of town to the south, free parking obviously. I wasn't aware parking was an issue at most hotels there, but I wasn't look for cute B&Bs in the center of town where it may be.I didn't have any trouble finding a place to park when sight-seeing in the city, I probably did some advance research on that.
I doubt if you'll be able to rent a car in the city, anyway, so you'll have to figure out how to get to the car rental place. A lot of them are south on RT 1. Your car rental should be a whole lot cheaper renting at JAX than St Augustine, especially if you are driving to Atlanta. LIke a couple hundred dollars a week perhaps.

Did you check flights into Daytona? Jet Blue, Delata and United fly there. Take A1A to St Augustine beach, beutiful ride. He will like the light house and fort in St Augustine. Do visit Flager College.

I only stay in St Augustine because we drink and bar hop at night. The beach would be more for your son. We stay at St George's Inn but there is also A comfort suites close by and a huge parking garage.

Oops. What a mess. South Carolima : We spent time on Kiawah Island and did day trips to Charleston and visited the Magnolia plantation and took a carriage ride as well as just wandering the city on foot just to view the old homes. Yes, I do realize Colonial Williamsburg is in Va. I don't know what I was thinking. Happy planning.
