My girlfriend and I are looking for a weekend getaway from Omaha in early April to celebrate our anniversary. We want to travel somewhere in mid to western Missouri. We've been to KC numerous times, so we thought we'd try something new. Does anyone have any info on places like Arrow Rock, Excelesior Springs, or a destination we've never heard of? We're looking for a something relaxing and romantic, although we enjoy siteseeing and hiking as well. Not really interested in Branson. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This is a little further south, but you'd love Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Just thought of another place: Tan-Tar-A resort at Lake of the Ozarks. Not sure what the weather would be like there in early April, but it's a nice resort with lots of activities. The dogwood are starting to bloom here in the Ouachita Mountains of southern Arkansas, so in 2-3 weeks they should be blooming in Eureka Springs. Tan-Tar-A will be a couple of weeks behind that, I think. My first choice for you would still be Eureka Springs, and it's a one-day drive from Omaha (I'm a Cornhusker too).
I have been to Arrow Rock only a couple of times for day trips. It is quite small and very interesting with the old buildings and info about the history. If you want to drive farther east, Rocheport is a tiny town located on the Katy trail, with b&bs, antique stores, and a winery nearby with a great view of the Mo river valley.
My favorite spot is Hermann, although it may be farther east than you want to drive for two days. There are seven wineries within 20 miles or less (it is really fun to winery-hop), several good restaurants, and a microbrewery/ restaurant. The Katy trail is just across the Mo river form Hermann. There are a number of guesthouses and b&bs. There are several antique stores and gift shops.
Do you bicycle?
There are a number of neat little towns with B&Bs along the KATY trail.
You go as far east at Hermann (with all its wineries), but I would be most tempted by Rocheport. Some of the most beautiful portions of the trail are there beween the bluffs and the Missouri River and the only tunnel.
Rocheport is a tiny community, but you were looking for romantic. And if you decide you need to go dancing or or what a fancier restaurant, Columbia is a short drive away.
