Am leaving for Boston area from Iowa to pick up my daughter from college. I would like to camp and see some sites nature related on my way out. I have several days that I could vary my route. What would be some essential sites along the way?

Traveling on I-90, just east of Chicago and Gary, you will go past Indiana Dunes National Forest, on the lake shore, which is unusual and scenic.
There's probably some great nature scenery to be found along Lake Erie, but I'm not familiar with the area.
Just east of Erie, PA, on I-86, you pass the Allegheny National Forest, which has some deep woods and hiking.
West of Schenectady NY, you go by Howe Caverns, which offers interesting tours. There are also some smaller caves in the area that are open for tours.
You also will drive through the Berkshire Mountains of Western MA, which have lots of small state parks with camping and hiking trails.
