NE Trip - Boston to Iowa - best route & towns to grab hotel - section 5

Husband, 13yr daughter & myself headed east end of July for 1 week. Time to head back west. Home is 1300 miles from Boston.
Depending on how late we leave Boston on Friday will determine how many hours we will drive.

How heavy is traffic on Friday night on I-84 out of Boston? Is this the best route? Would Danbury, CT (158 miles) be a place to grab hotel? Wished we could get as far as Scranton, PA but that is 5 hours (291 miles) from Boston.
Is there any other town between Danbury and Scranton that has good hotel choices?

Hotels in Wilkes Barre, PA were expensive. Maybe an event in area.

On Saturday we will drive 12-14 hours - not sure where that will put us. Depends on road construction in PA, OH, IN, & IL. then final push on Sunday. Anyone have tips on this final stretch?
