My DH and I would like to take our 2 teens to the "mountains" in NE Alabama during Fall Break.
Any recommendations for a cabin or campground or motel? We have camping equipment if the weather is nice but enjoy cabins also. We would like to do light hiking on scenic trails, see waterfalls, etc. Someone told us that Little River Canyon is nice.
Never been to that part of the state and would appreciate any help.

Hi,
Little River Canyon, one of the deepest east of the Mississippi has a 11 mile scenic route around the rim with several pullouts with views into the canyon. At the Canyon Mouth Park, $2 day use fee or national park pass you can walk along the river which is also good for inner tubing or rafting. Water levels too low in fall for canoeing. Fall colors should be good in late Oct. Can camp or rent cabin at nearby DeSoto State park which near the Little River Canyon National Preserve. Another nice nearby park is Cloudland Canyon State park in NW corner of Georgia which also has cabins. Near to this is Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. There is an excellent aquarium in Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Choo-choo. If you want to leave the mountains about 30 miles from Little River is Scottsboro and the home of Unclaimed Baggage another 45 miles will take you to Huntsville and home of Space Camp and US Space & Rocket Center which bills itself the largest space museum.
Hey, thanks Photodog. I will check out those canyons. We've already been to the sites in Chattanooga and Huntsville but Unclaimed Baggage sounds interesting.
Unclaimed Baggage is tons o' junk. Don't waste vacation time on it!
Dan is correct...don't waste your time at Unclaimed Baggage.
