National Hotel vs. The Palms South Beach

Hello travelers, which hotel do you prefer? We are going to stay at one of the two in February, prices are generally the same. I know it is very busy this time of the year but the smaller the crowds the better for us. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

The Palms is on 3025 Collins Ave. and the National Hotel is on 1677 Collins Ave if the location makes any difference?

My preference is The National.

The Palms is located on a very very busy section of Collins Avenue not within walking distance to anything and you would have to have a car.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking. We are going to have a car anyways because we'll be heading to Key Largo for the first two nights since Miami is sold out and then hubby wants to see a Miami Heat game. We may just retuen the car anyways for the last few nights since parking will probably be expensive. Thanks for the input, we'll go with the National.

otownrob, isn't that parking garage $14 per 24 hours?

travelinwifey, you will not need the car in South Beach so I'd dump it when you get back to Miami.

When are y'all coming in? During the boat show? If so you might have to head a bit further down the keys for decent room rates.

Good luck and you'll enjoy The National! One of the best pools in Miami!

GoTravel, we are planning on on visiting Feb. 3rd to the 10th. We are probably going to book the Azul del Mar for the first two nights and then head back up to Miami. We like the sound of the Azul because it is adults only and Miami and the keys seem really busy, perhaps it is the boat show? I am going to try Skyauction for The National. I have been striking out with Skyauction though recently, my last two requested dates have been rejected. Still, even if we have to book conventionally the rates are better than the Loews and other hotels in that category.

Do you have your hotel reservations?

The Fourth of February is the superbowl in Miami and as a result, you are going to have to look north of Orlando or south of Key Largo for a decent room rate February 3-5th.

That is probably what you are running into with Skyauction because many hotels still have seven night minimums from the superbowl.

Closer in, they should open up.

Noooooo! The Key Largo hotel is sold out! I went to was book and it was gone. I can't believe it, when I checked a few nights ago there were rooms availible. I was so worried about finding discount lodging in Miami because I thought there was a convention and I put South Beach on hold figuring I could adjust those dates. Aaargh. You snooze you loose. I saw the Cheeca Lodge is availible but it is $100 more per night

Did you try the Pines and Palms?

What about Breezy Palms?

You really need to get at least a couple of hours outside Miami to find rooms for the 3-5th of February.

I think it's going to be too much and regretfully we will reschedule for later spring when crowds are gone. We were only going to visit Key Largo because the Miami hotels were sold out. It's a 4 1/2 hour flight from our home and hubby isn't willing to drive more than an hour out of the city upon arrival.

Thanks so much for your input GoTravel. I looked up past threads also and all of your previous comments were really helpful. We may just visit LA's beaches now, but we are going to lose the nice warm weather.
