We're considering a car trip on the Natchez Trace; we've never been in that part of the country before. Does anyone have any suggestions about routes from SC, good times to go, places to stay, etc.? Thanks!

Can't provide specific info for you - we only drove it for a short while, But a word of caution: I can attest that they take the posted speed on the Trace seriously!
We just got back. Spent a day and a half on it. Started around Tupelo and took it to Natchez. It was beautiful and relaxing. Lots of historical spots to stop at. It's easy to exit it and get on a main road to find accomodations. After fighting the trucks, campers, etc on the interstates the beauty, peace and quiet of the Trace is refreshing. Had never been to Miss. before, and didnt expect anything nearly so scenic. Don't take it to make time, though. Speed limit is 50. Reminds me of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
A unique place to stay about halfway on the Trace is at French Camp, MS in the French Camp B&B. It's a 100+ year old home run by a nice couple. Price is about $60 a night including full breakfast. Town is right on the Trace, not much there but French Camp Academy. In fact, that's the only place for dinner; you can eat with the kids and others in the community if you get there by 5:00. B&B phone is 601-547-6835.
Also spend a night or 2 in Natchez. They have lots of B&B's to choose from. You can tour historic homes and/or gamble at the Lady Luck Casino.
Have fun!
