Nashville restaurants

OK, we are two weeks away from our 5 nights in Nashville.

Granddaughter, boy friend, daughter, husband and my wife and I.

Need some thoughts on a few restaurants that have dinners perhaps $20 dollars or less PP and we are not fussy.

Possible decent ambiance, but we I will consider any thoughts.

Thanks

P.S. Does 'Sole Mio, 3rd ave south, fit as a decent restaurant

Sorry. Have to ask. Is that $20 before tax and tip for an entree only, no appetizer, no dessert, nothing to drink?

Sole Mio is better than decent (by my standards). But might cost a little more than your budget. For Italian, I really like Cafe Nonna (in the Sylvan Park area) but that could also be slightly above your price.

Whenever I have out-of-town guests Monell's is their favorite meal. It's authentic southern -- with great funky atmosphere. You share a table and eat family style -- no menu, but huge amounts of different foods. They always include skillet fried chicken that is the best I've ever had, as well as several salads, vegetables, and additional main courses. Great biscuits and corn bread with homemade preserves. They also always have their famous corn pudding that's soooo good! It's all-you-can-eat, and amazingly, it's in your price range. My favorite Monell's location is on Murfreesboro Road (near the airport) but the one on 6th Ave. is wonderful, too. The food's the same--but the one on Murfreesboro Rd. is in a marvelus old mansion.

Jack's BBQ (in the lower Broadway tourist area) will also fit the bill. It's not fancy, but it's very Nashville and the BBQ is good.

Enjoy!

NP; That $20 dollars is for the whole enchilada. lol

Songdoc; Thanks--For Sole Mio I can get a $100 dollar coupon and we need to be able to spend to spend $200. With 6 of us we should easily be able to spend $200 and that may include drinks.

Then we can consider your other thoughts.

NP; To be more specific, I was looking for dinners in the $20 dollar range and everything else is over and above.

My wife and I will probably take care of 3 dinners for our five night trip.

Our granddaughters graduation gift from college. We have a home rented with 3 bedrooms and took care of air fare for her and BF.

So I was looking for reasonable places to have dinner.

Looks like Sole Mio will be our one special night out.

Are y'all still staying in East Nashville? If so (or even if not), Mas Tacos Por Favor is dirt cheap and delicious. Cash only, and you'll likely have to stand in line. Worth it. Across the street is The Pharmacy, which has good burgers, a beer garden out back, and homemade sodas. It's not my favorite burger in town (I prefer Burger Up in 12 South, also in your price range) but close to "home" and tasty. Marche in East Nashville is one of my favorite weekend brunch places, and unless you go crazy with beverages, certainly doable for under $20. Or you can go super inexpensive and get breakfast sandwiches from Sweet Sixteenth Bakery - oh man, they are so good.

For barbecue, my favorite is Martin's - there's one on Belmont Boulevard. (One is opening up soonish in SoBro, I'm not sure when.) Jack's is not my favorite (it's fine though) but it is very convenient if you're sightseeing. Another casual downtown option: Frothy Monkey is a great coffee shop/restaurant with a branch on 5th Avenue, I believe.

Other favorite local options around town: Smiling Elephant (Thai, in Melrose/8th Ave), Fido (coffee shop/locally sourced meals, Hillsboro Village/21st Ave), Biscuit Love in the Gulch, Hattie B's or Prince's for hot chicken (depending on how adventurous/authentic you're feeling).

For your big night out - Sole Mio has been around a long time, and I actually haven't been, so I defer to Songdoc on its quality! But if you're interested in checking out other options, Husk, City House or Lockeland Table are always great. You'd need to make reservations for any of those, and I'd go ahead and do it, especially on weekend nights. Tandy Wilson, the chef/owner at City House, just won a James Beard award tonight for best chef in the Southeast. You can get a pizza there (or Lockeland Table) for under $20, or spend more if it's your special event spot.

jent103; Great to hear from you again.

Yes, we are staying in the East Nashville home and thanks for your suggestions.

Our granddaughter has read about the 'pedal' shuttle around town and that looks like fun.

One night, our nephew has invited us to dinner.

On May 14th we will be on a Jet Blue flight. Return home on the 19th and GD graduates on the 21st from college.

Happy Days.
