Was thinking of the Cape, then considered Rockport MA, now someone has suggested Naragansett/South County RI. Does anyone have lodging suggestions for Narragansett? We just want to relax and escape the AZ desert heat for a few days in August. We're flying in and out of PVD. Thanks.

Narragansett is located on the seashore about 40 minutes south of Providence. If you love the beach, there are great beaches here, as well as fishing, and a few great spots for hikes. If you located yourself in this area, you could easily take a day trip to Block Island ( the ferry is close by), drive over to Newport( about 40 minutes) or drive down to Mystic Seaport ( also about 40 minutes). Narragansett gets busy in August as this is our best beach time in Rhode Island. I have not stayed in any of the hotels because I live in the area. You might enjoy the Sheltor Harbor Inn in South County. It's a lovely B&B with a great restaurant. From there you could easily visit all of the above areas - or you could veg out on the beach!
If you want to just relax, Block Island is the place to go. Small island (7 by 3 miles) Hike, rent bikes, (alittle hilly) or rent mopeds. Great beaches with few crowds. The mainland beaches get crowded. Nice small hotels, Inns and B&Bs. For pictures of the island search for my memories of block island. It will give you a little idea of what the island is like. If you do decide to stay on thr mainland I know people who have stayed at the Willows and liked it. I think its in Charleston and it would be a good middle point between Newport and Mystic. Also in Ct. is the Indian casino`s Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Both worth checking out. Foxwoods also has a terrific museam. Its abot 10 miles north of Mystic.
