When I was once in South County, I went to the Charlestown beaches--which are gorgeous! Is there anything as "pristine" in or near Narragansett?
I'm looking for a relatively quiet beach. And how does parking or beach pass thing work there? I know I paid $10 for the day at one state beach and $12 at the town one.
And any B&B's to recommend in the $125-$175 range?
thanks

Relatively quiet beach is a little harder to find in the peak of summer, especially before school starts up again. That said, Narragansett town beach can be an excellent beach for the surf, the broad expanse of sand and for a nice walk along the shore to the mouth of the Narrow River. It's just not quiet until after Labor Day. Parking is $6 for the day. Non-resident pass is just $4 for adults, children under 12 are free during the summer season. It's free after Labor Day, with no guards. I would suggest, if you do want to give it a try, heading down, parking and as you enter the beach pavillion, veering left and walking a bit away from the throngs of people-as opposed to veering right. Our favorite spot is between lifeguard chairs 4 and 5.
Scarborough is even busier and less quiet. More popular with families and less well-maintained compared to 'Gansett.
East Matunuck can be quiet but the surf breaks right on the beach-not unlike Charlestown, but that didn't seem to be one of your concerns. Also in South County, you migth try East Beach, Moonstone and Green Hill but I'm not sure of the parking or non-resident rates.
As for B&Bs.....can't help you there. Apologies.
