Napua tower at Grand Wailea worth extra $$ ?

Message: Hi y'all,

We have finally decided on a trip to Maui in January and have decided on Grand Wailea. We will be traveling with our 2 toddlers, then 3yr. old and 18 months old. I will be 4 1/2 months pregnant also Was wondering exactly what amenities we will get from Napua tower? Are there fridges (small) in the room or anything like that? I won't be able to enjoy cocktails, but DH will. Just wondering what else would make it worth our while. I definitely want a fabulous trip, this will be our last one for at least another year. Thanks for any input and advice!!!

We stayed at GWR a year ago next week.
We had a small fridge in room 8080. I believe this was a mini-bar fridge that we never opened. If you don't get the info you're seeking here, could you call the toll-free number and ask the staff? What's the price variance between the tower and a non-tower room?

dh and I stayed in the Napua Tower last month for 6 nihgts. The lounge is very convenient for breakfast, they have toast, cereal, danishes, fruit, bagels, muffins, yogurt, and a featured hot dish, usually eggs, once there was french toast,
we like the location of the rooms, being right over the lobby, however the rooms do not have direct ocean view if that is what you are looking for, some will have almost full ocean view, but for the most part, they are partial.
the evening offerings we were never around for, as we went out to dinner ever night, we did peek in the lounge to see whatthey had in the eveningonce, and it was the typical offerings I have seen elsewhere....veggie crudite, cheese and crackers and a variety of hot appetizers (jalepno poppers... etc..)
they do have a full bar of alcoholic beverages in the evening.

during the day there is water and ice tea and cookies out.
the rooms do not have fridges, but they do have a mini bar, that I supose you could use, if there is room in it, we never even opened ours.

we liked the convenience of the lounge, however, we usually stay concierge because of the additional service... but that was lacking, the concierge staff was not exactly going out of their way to even say hello. If you have seen the Napua tower on the travel channel, the friendliness of the concierge staff member was a show...as he was there when we stayed (I wont mention names) and this same person who showed so much effort on TV was less than friendly in real life, wouldnt even say hello in the morning, just put the food out and try not to look at anyone..... dissapointing there, but...
we loved the grand wailea and will definitely return, we wont stay Napua Tower though.
however the convenince of breakfast may in fact be worth it with 2 small children!

Thanks everyone,

The price difference is about $50-$60 per night. We would definitely use the breakfast feature and snacks for the kiddos when available. DH would enjoy cocktail hour at night. I think I will go ahead and book it and hopefully I won't be disappointed. Thanks agin for you replies!

Ask for a higher elevation room facing the water. The patio, not the entry door. We stayed on the 8th floor and were able to see over the palms. Have an excellent trip!

yesu,

We stayed at the GW in July for a week and the Napua tower is definitely the way to go. We have three kids and always opt for the concierge level when the price difference isn't great.

One word of advice--call and confirm that your reservation is in the Napua tower before you leave. When we checked in there was a mix up with our reservation and even though they had guaranteed connecting rooms, they weren't even next door to each other. Our kids are 12, 15 and 17 so for the comfort of all, we always get two connecting rooms so we opted to go with two deluxe ocean views as it's just too much of a hassle if they don't connect. The hotel was gracious and gave us a $700 credit (which doesn't go far there!), but poor service was a serious issue. It was peak tourist season and the hotel was full, but given that we were paying prices per room higher than those at the Ritz and the 4 Seasons, we expected much more than we got. Simply put, service was non-existent. We met a family that was staying in the Napua Tower and they were VERY happy with their service (and we were VERY envious!).

You should also note, especially with young children, it's a long walk down to the pool and the beach from the main building. Since we couldn't get the Napua Tower rooms, we wished we had stayed in the garden view rooms that are much closer (and less expensive). Oh well, live and learn.

right, if you are going between deluxe ocean view and Napua Tower then definitely go with the Napua Tower, for the slight price difference it is absolutley worth it!
I am not saying I was disappointed in the conciere itself,, I would have liked the staff to be a little more friendly.
we actually encountered the opposite of what others have said.... the rest of the staff at the GW were so very nice and accommodating, and the concierge didnt even smile....

that said.we LOVED the GW overall, and will be back in 6 weeks!
