cac,
Let us know a little bit more about your budget...
The Ritz in Naples is beautiful, as rwilliams says it is a "slight walk" to the beach, but dont think it it is so far away..... think a 1 minute walk through the Ritz's beautiful ambience...
The Registry is another great resort, here you will have to take a tram to get to the beach (although it is a nice quick ride through the mangroves)
There is also a new new Hyatt that recentley opened up in the Bonita area
Please email if you have any ?

I like the Sanibel Harbour Resort. It's very close to Sanibel but you are not stuck on the island. It's also close to Fort Myers. Very nice property, spa, gym, tennis, etc. There is a mangrove that you can walk through (wear bugspray). It's not on the Atlantic but a bay that is fine for swimming. Beaches are a very close drive.
