Naples Hotel and Everglades
What hotel would you recommend for Naples? More interested in sight seeing than the beach. We like to stay within walking distance of nice shops and restaurants. Also, I want to take at least one day trip to see the Everglades. Would you recommend Everglades City for that trip with a Boar Tour?

I can't help with the hotel because I used to have a condo there, but I have thoughts on the Everglades.
Yes, you can take a boat excursion through the 10,000 Islands from Everglades City-Chokoluskee. But that's a lot of islands. There is a small National Park museum there. The general store museum at the outer end of Chokoluskee is fascinating, and both it and the historical museum in Everglades City give fascinating views of the not very pleasant world of the area as it developed.
East of Everglades City, back on 41, you pass America's Smallest Post Office, and the bridge over the Turner River, which is to alligators what the Super Bowl is to football. There are alligators everywhere along the roads,Mobutu these guys dominate.
Still further east is another National Park maintenance facility and museum, clean toilets, friendly staff, and plenty of gators. A few miles further east is a Miccosuccee Indian village, though once you know what to look for, you will see houses and compounds along the road frequently. Last time I was there, you could still get airboat rides, though they aren't very responsible ecologically.
At this point, you are almost in West Miami, and you have had enough Everglades fr anybody. Don't make elaborate dinner plans because you will all be tired. But everyone I have taken on this excursion has enjoyed it.
Finally, be aware that there are all sorts of artificial distinctions in the Everglades. Fakahatchee Strand is not technically in the Everglades. Shark Valley is. Can I tell the difference?

Thanks for the replies. I have printed the route suggestions for the Everglades. And, I made a reservation at the Inn on the 5th.... I am a little nervous about the reservation. I made it through Trip Advisor and a site called Cancelon...I plan to check with the hotel to be sure I actually have a reservation.
