Or anyone who may have recently been on island - planning our annual visit
and one of our traditions has always been eating at Cioppino's in the garden on our first
night and find the number disconnected ! When I made rezzie at another favorite, Cinco5, he tells me it was bought and is now Dune ( I think he said by Michael Getter)
Anyone eaten at Dune? Also was thinking of trying a few other new ones this year and looking at Sfoglia - anyone have thoughts on that one? If so, thanks in advance !

Hi Escargot - here's a link to a recent thread where Ack reviewed Dune http://www.fodors.com/community/united-states/ackislander-and-othersnantucket-summer-2009-restaurants.cfm. Yes, unfortunately Cioppino's is no more, but Ack liked Dune as you can read.
There are a lot of new restaurants this season on Nantucket (in spite of the economy). The Atlantic Cafe is closed and has been replaced by another casual spot, Cy's, that is a lobster and seafood place. Walter's is gone and in its place is a new restaurant, Corazon del Mar, opened by the Raynors. Town (by the same owners as Queequegs) is open around the corner from the Police Station in a location that was a B&B (Parker Guest House) that we use to stay at years ago. We haven't tried these new places yet but maybe Ack has?
Thanks Marie - I'll read that thread and we'll add a few new ones to the line up this year !
Yes, read the report that MarieF cites. Can't write all that again!
I haven't been to Town, but friends were there the other night and were not impressed. Their complaints were the service, which was not good, and the food did not make up for the bad service. The waiter kept rushing them to finish dinner (6:30 reservation) so he would have the table for an 8:
Sorry. I hit the wrong button! So I'll finish here. He wanted the table for 8:15. Well, anyone knows that you can't do that, so I am putting this down to opening problems. They were still working on the building at the beginning of the month. I think I would not eat there before September. In contrast, Cy's has a limited menu while they learn. Much better to do fewer things well.
We hope to Corazon del Mar this weekend. I'll post if we make it.
Thanks Ackilander - if you do eat anywhere new and fun in the next week or so we'd love to hear about it and I read the thread noted above and it was full of great info - thanks.
Ackislander, thanks for the input on Town. We were walking by last Saturday and stopped in to check it out. The menu looked good, but they did still seem a bit disorganized. The hostess was trying to get us to make a rez for that night but we had other plans.
I am curious about Corazon as we like both The Boarding House and The Pearl a lot. BTW I was happy to read that you are a convert to The Pearl. We've eaten our way across the US and Europe and we think it's among the best restaurants anywhere!
not to hijak the thread, but thought it went part n parcel with my question--I have booked most of our dinner places for our time out in natucket-- we'll be dining at The Galley, 21 Federal, The pearl, lola and dune.
we have room for 1 more. What should we choose that's along the lines of the above-- excellent food, atmosphere, etc. I think our choices might be 56 Union, Figs or Chanticleer (I know figs is somewhat casual but i don't think they are open for lunch and i like Todd English). Any thoughts?
Has anyone been to Epernay Wine Shop on N. Beach Street? I was wondering how they are doing.
Thin
It is hard to know how they -- or anyone else, for that matter -- is doing. They are open still, and their proprietor supplied the wine for a recent charity dinner we attended, so they must be doing okay.
like those of you who are asking restaurant questions are still planning to come. Many people are complaining about few visitors, others are having no problems. In line at the post office, I heard one gallery owner say that the only people who came in were trying to get out of the rain, yet the woman in front of her said her shop was packed. Things haven't been helped by the generally lousy weather on the east coast. It isn't much of an incentive for an unplanned jaunt.
It has been a funny early season. Very few yachts at the basin, very few yachts in the harbor, yet all the big spenders
This isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless you are a spec builder, Stephen Karp (who owns most of the hotels), or someone who depends on renting your house to make the mortgage payments. Things had gotten a bit too crazy out here, and it is time to go back to the level of business of the 1998-2002. We will all be happier. In the long run!
Thanks. I was wondering because Amber from Epernay used to be a manager at 21 Federal. She was always so nice. I hope she does well.
I wanted to go up to my house this year, but I just don't have the time. Keith and I are going to Germany and Rome soon. Oh, I wish I had more time. As I get older time just slips away.

thanks all - can't wait to be "back on ack" next week -
Ackislander - being that we are in the boat biz, we're hoping when we pull into the basin there'll be plenty bobbing in the harbor and at the docks, especially around the 4th - sometimes it's less busy before and after, but hopefully that will be a busy week all around for everyone !
Escargot, see my review of Corazon del Mar, with a new subject heading just for you!
Crossed yesterday and arrived to sun on nantucket-something
we have not seen much of in Boston! Had a great meal at Sfoglia
we'd never been and it was better than we anticipated- great day
biking around the island - reservations at cinqo5- Brant point grill and the
galley -will report later but Ackislander if you see this and are walking
the main dock at theboat basin over the next few days stop by and say
hello
Or any fellow fodorites stop by!
We are going later in the month, but it would have been nice to say hello! Enjoy enjoy enjoy!
Hi Escargot: I don't know if you'll see this, but I wanted to tell you that we had dinner at The Galley on Friday nite and we loved it! I remembered that you had spoken so highly about the food, the setting, etc. that I put it on my list to try this summer. We were not disappointed!! Funny but as we were having our "escargot" appetizer, my DH asked me how I had heard about the Galley and I had to tell him "from Escargot" (LOL). He looked at me strangely, and then I explained about your posts. Another Fodors moment!
I would have stopped by your boat to say hello, but you didn't mention the name....
Hope you and the other Fodorites who were on island this 4th had a good time!
Oh I wish you'd stopped by !! The boat doesn't have a name, since it's a stock boat, but it does say Boston..... and so I figured if any of you walked down the main dock, I figured between the "boston" on the boat and the "Fodors" guide I put standing upright in the back window you wouldn't have missed us ! I should have said I left clues..... it would have been fun to have you - next time for sure ! I'm glad you loved the Galley - we just got home tonight so I have to right a quick trip report and hope you do too !
