Nantucket, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and/or Boston Honeymoon

My fiancee and I are getting married Memorial Day weekend 2015 and we are starting to plan our honeymoon. Because of work commitments, we won't be going until early June (we can do any time after 6/5/15). We narrowed the endless range of honeymoon options down to the New England coast (we want to drive, we want relaxing, we don't want to break the bank, etc.) but also both of our parents honeymooned in New England and it seemed like a nice tradition for us. My family also went to Cape Cod maybe 5 times during our childhood, and I always loved the trips.

So, I was hoping to get help to focus our trip further. We would like to go for ~ 1 week, and days of the week don't matter (we could do mid-week, weekend, whatever). We were interested in doing one more "relaxing" stop and one more "busy" stop. So, we were thinking the Cape OR Nantucket OR MV, and then also Boston.

Our main interests for the "relaxing" stop are to get time for just the two of us, hang out and walk on the beach, enjoy nature, food (very big for us, we would like both the traditional seafood and a little fine dining if possible), walking around towns/shops. Just general relaxation after a hectic year...haha. We know ourselves and our travel style pretty well, and we get bored quickly, which is why we had planned on throwing in the second location.

We were thinking about Boston because we're also very interested in history, sight-seeing, tours, etc. So we had thought maybe 3-4 days relaxing, 2-3 days in Boston taking in all the hits, something like that.

We are open to B&Bs, Hotels, Inns, rentals, you name it. We might want to lean a little more toward privacy, so potentially not the B&Bs, but I'm sure that would all be location by location differences.

Our lodging budget is about $300 per night over the course of the trip. So we would be ok with a little more expensive at times if it's balanced with cheaper for other times. I know that isn't enough for much luxury, but we thought it would be enough to make it work. Thanks in advance for any/all help. I can give any more information that anyone needs.

It will still be way too cold to swim then, so it is a good thing you want to walk on the beach rather than go in the water! It can be really romantic in the fog, not so much if it rains.

I think you have a good plan in terms of dividing up your time. It won't be crowded on the Cape and Islands, and Boston should be free of graduation madness.

Of the three locations, the Cape has the most variety, and you have childhood memories. Sandwich, the King's Highway, Wellfleet, Provincetown, Eastham, and Chatham are all different and rewarding. Lots of choices of places to eat, and lodging will be less expensive than the Islands.

Nantucket is to my mind (I live there, so I am prejudiced) the most beautiful. The town is full of historic streets and houses, and the bus system will be running so you can visit Sconset or Madaket or most other parts of the island. Lodging us expensive but you ought to be able to get a reasonable 3 night package mid week in June. The first week in June is usually restaurant week, so you can get a gourmet meal for a [more] reasonable price. All beaches are open to the public, even if they are privately owned.

Martha's Vineyard is similar but larger and therefore has more variety but is more diffuse as well. Oak Bluffs is a marvelous village with a large area of Victorian cottages that are not to be missed. Edgartown is something like Nantucket, and Menemsha is one of my favorite places in the world. Vineyard Haven, not so much. It takes a while to get around, and many beaches are not open to the public, more of a handicap in swimming season than in June.

You could flip a coin and do fine, but you might want to google some of the places I mentioned to help make a choice. If you then want more information about Nantucket, let me know. The only thing I can't help with is hotels. Since I live there, I don't stay in hotels! But I can help with locations.
