In Portland we love the drive out to Two Lights Park, and the lobster truck there or the Lobster Shack with its picnic tables. Red's Drive In on the way back for the soft-serve made with fresh strawberries.

In Camden try Boynton Mckay or The Marriner's Restaurant for blueberry pancakes, The Mount Battie Takeout Shack for fried Maine clams or scallops or mixed-seafood or for a lobster roll, and River Ducks for blueberry ice cream.

In Bar Harbor we've always had good luck at The Thirsty Whale and at Café This Way. We also like to take the drive out to Beal's Lobster Pier in Southwest Harbor. We never bother with the long wait for popovers at the Jordan Pond House since DH makes popovers quite often and we didn't find most of their food to be anything special, but most people would probably recommend a stop there.

Mystic: between the interstate and Mystic Seaport, near the cemetery and overlooking the water, are two very small places with a few tables inside and out and the most fantastic seafood chowder, Rhode Island style, no cream, no flour, just clear broth, fish, and potato.

Noank: Noank Lobster is a few mikes down the road from Mystic

Portland: Duck Fat

The lobster truck at the park is Bite Into ME. I think it's one of the few places that offers more than the traditional types of lobster rolls. Their facebook page is under Bite Into Maine. They also serve the best root beer from Maine Roots. Although they have some picnic tables, if you have bag chairs with you, pick a spot over at the cliff edge where you can enjoy the fantastic view of Casco Bay.

Agree with Duck Fat. If you want Asian - Bao Bao House.

There are many places in Mystic, my favorite is Daniel Packer downstairs which is casual, upstairs more formal, also: Red36, which is more modern, has outside seating in a marina on the water, the Oyster house, on the river near the bridge has outside seating, Bravo Bravo right on the main road, some seats outside on the sidewalk, and many more including Mystic Pizza which was made famous by the film of the same name that was one of Julia Roberts early shows (people of a certain age get their pictures taken outside this and explain to their kids/grandkids what it represents).

For Italian in Groton on the Thames River, near Electric Boat is Paul's Pasta. They make their own pasta. Slightly gritty area, but safe.

The Ocean House Hotel in Watch Hill RI is a reconstruction of a golden age hotel and has a wide veranda where they do serve lunch, they also have an outside bar/lounge area and inside more formal dining. Taylor Swift reportedly has a home near there. Bring a heavier wallet.

My favorite place in Stonington Burroughs is Noah's and there is a place on the water, but sorry I don't know its name. It is on Water street, kind of behind the Stonington Inn.

My favorite breakfast place is Kitchen Little in a marina on Mason's Island (also part of Stonington) with views of the water.

In Noank, a short way down the river from Mystic is Abbots Lobster pound which is casual and has typical menu, nice views and near that is Ford's which used to be just a place to get lobster but is now serving other items. It was the location of the lobster company where Julia Roberts boy friend worked in Mystic Pizza.

Hello, on Friday, we will be at Water's Edge Resort at Westbrook, CT. We have a window between 5 pm - 8 pm and are looking for a place for dinner. Probably a big group? like 20 people or more..

Any suggestions around there? that we don't want to waste time driving back & forth?

Thank you.

emalloy and ack have covered most of my suggestions, and more. In Mystic, should you be looking for fried clams, etc, try the Sea Swirl, certainly a cut above the usual clam shack. http://www.seaswirlofmystic.com

For Friday, try Lenny and Joe's Fish Tale. They have a restaurant in Westbrook and another in nearby Madison. The Westbrook location has a bar and table service, Madison does not, but does have outdoor seating. Both have simple burgers, hot dogs etc for kids or non-seafood eaters. Suggest you call ahead to see if they can handle a group of twenty. http://ljfishtale.com

If you want casual, with outside seating try Bill's, right on the Post Road in Westbrook.
