Mystic, CT hotel?

HI- I am having a hard time figuring out where to stay with my family in Mystic, CT. We would prefer to stay in a hotel that is within walking distance to the Aquarium, restaurants and anything else possible. For anyone familiar with Mystic, is ther such a place?

Thanks!

Sarah

There's a Hilton, and some less expensive hotels(Howard Johnson?) that are a block or so away from the Aquarium and the Olde Mistick Village shopping area. Mystic Seaport is a few miles away, I didn't see any hotels closer to it and downtown Mystic, though there are inns and B&Bs

Thanks, nyer! I will look into the Hilton. If anyone else has another nice hotel close by, I'd appreciate it!

Hi Sarah,

There's the Howard Johnson, which is right across the street from Olde Mistik Village and the Aquarium, as is the Mystic Seaport Inn, of which I'm quite fond.

I know there's an AmeriSuite, Best Western Sovereign Inn, and the Residence Inn Mystic, although they're a bit of a walk away from the Aquarium, but not that much.

I usually go to Mystic with my car and drive around as many places have free parking. The really charming restaurants are away from Olde Mistik Village, which is a touristy little place. If you'll have a car with you, drive down Greenmanville Ave, which becomes Denison Ave. You should find some fun dining around the drawbridge.

I absolutely loved the Mystic Seaport Museum, which is also a walkable distance from the hotels I've listed here.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much! So, very close to the Aquarium (we are going to have our 1 year old and 2 year old with us in a stroller!) and Olde Mystick Village is:

-Hilton
-Howard Johnsons
-Mystic Seaport Inn

And better dining is by the drawbridge...which does not surprise me it is not in the village!

Thank you very much, nyer and mcnyc!

Sarah

There are some wonderful family restaurants along Denison. One that I think of fondly is on your right, as you approach the drawbridge from the hotel, literally right before the drawbridge. Depending on when you're going, there's also a great ice cream shop to your left right after the drawbridge.

Wish I could remember names...

Here are some sites which I found useful during my trips there:
www.mysticcountry.com
www.mystic.org
www.mysticseaport.org
www.mysticaquarium.org

It's one of my favorite places. Enjoy!

I was just cleaning up some receipts and found a receipt from a restaurant IN Olde Mistick Village that I remember being really good called Go Fish. Lots of fun glass fish at the entrance (for sale, of course).

The link to the village is here (which I'm sure you've already found):

That is so great...I am a "fish eating vegetarian" so it sounds perfect.

Thanks again!

I stayed there last year at the Comfort Inn. I tried to get a family room nearer the town but they wouldn't take a 1 night only booking. Comfort Inn was 1/2 mile to the olde village, which has its own parking are & over 1 mile from the sea front.
Referring to reviews I booked an upstairs room away from the lifts. We had a good nights sleep - so quiet after New York apart from the grasshoppers outside. The breakfast was help yourself & was excellent & my kids acquired a taste for the free hot chocolate drinks.
My first experience of driving on the left & the drive into the town was easy. Suggest parking at the seaport for a walk in to the town of a day. Night time I parked by the station. Really enjoyed our visit there & know that you will too.

For some fantastic seafood dining a bit down the road in Stonington, try Skipper's Dock. Very good!

Try this site:

hotel-guides.us/connecticut/mystic-ct-hotels.html

Also, if you're looking a a good pasta restaurant in Groton,(Mystic I believe is a part of Groton) try Paul's Pasta on Thames street. The pasta is cut right after you order your dinner. It appears to be a a hole in the wall, but the food is excellent. It's quite popular with the locals and the Navy from the sub base.

Has anybody stayed in Days Inn or Super 8 in Groton, CT. Read some reviews that Days Inn was dirty? Anybody have info about either of these hotels? Thanks.
