Hello! We have family in Boston who we visit yearly and I'm always looking for interesting places to go outside of the city. Is a day trip to the Mystic area and specifically the aquariam worth the time? We have a 3 year old & a 15month old. Has anyone been to both the Mystic Aquarium & the one in Boston? How do they compare? Also, is it very out of the way to drop someone off at Foxwoods & then head over to Mystic? Any comments will be appreciated. B.T.W., we'll probrably do this day trip the Saturday or Sunday of Memorial day week-end. Will traffic to & congestion at the aquarium be unbearable?

IMHO the aquarium in Boston is better than the one in Mystic. There is also a recostructed sailing town/museum with ships there. Can;t imagine that the trip would be worth it with kids that young - better to wait til they're both at least 4/5 or so.
Mystic Seaport is worth the drive for you, but your kids are too young to appreciate it. The aquarium isn't worth the drive.
It's not too out of the way to go to Foxwood first. It's only about 20 minutes from Foxwood to Mystic, but it's through several backroads, so have a good map ready.
It's a good aquarium, but so's the one in Boston. It seems silly to drive all that way, when there's one at least as good right there.
And, based on our experience in Mystic a couple years ago, it will be crowded on Memorial Day weekend.
We've stayed overnight at Mystic and enjoyed it as adults, but a day trip there with children that young, would not be worth it. The aquariam in Boston is better, anyway.
Thanks everyone! It did cross my mind that I may be better off taking the kids to the aquarium in Boston than trekking all the way to Mystic. I've just heard about Mystic so often I'm really curious to visit. But I'd hate to go all the way over their just to realize that the aquarium in Boston is just as good or better. Thanks again!
Mabella...you have gotten good advice. I lived in CT the last 8 years and was so disappointed with Mystic. It gets built up as this great aquarium but I still have no idea why it has this reputation. Skip it, the one in Boston is much better!
