Just booked a room at the Anadalusian Court for this weekend! I've never been to Palm Springs before and I'm excited to go. Any favorite places, restaurants, boutiques to recommend ? We won't be golfing this trip... just planning to enjoy the pool and the warm weather.

I cannot remember any particular restaurants, other than the Falls for cocktails. We went in November, so hiking may not happen for you.

We liked going up the tram on Mt. Jacinto. Cooler and lots of trails. We did not hike this as I was having terrible muscle pains in my legs at the time. Months later, I figured out these were a side effect of the statins I was taking. Moving along....

Enjoyed an easy hike in one of the palm canyons, Andreas Canyon. I think these canyons are so interesting .

I also put together, on our own, a tour of the historic, mid-century, motels in the Andalusian Court neighborhood. This is the area I would stay in next time as it is close to the bars and restaurants downtown. You should also check out the historic Willows hotel. They offered,at the time, a tour of the O'Donnell House. http://odonnellhouse.com

Not sure if they do this any more, but I am sure there are other such tours in PS.
We also went out to a date farm. Many years ago, I worked on a booth at the State Fair and worked with the Oasis Date Farm, so that is where we went. Good for date shopping.

The best part of PS was hanging by the pool, sipping cocktails! Have fun!

I live in LA so Palm Springs is an easy trip for my husband and I or even for a girls trip. I love PS. It is going to be really hot so some of this you may not want to do. But here are some suggestions: The living desert is a really impressive place. You will be outside walking around for most of it so keep the heat in mind. But if you look it up you can get a better idea of what it is. It not depressing like a zoo. I am a huge animal lover and I don't leave this place upset. They do a lot of rehabilitating and rescue animals that wouldn't make it in the wild, ex owl with one eye. You can also look ahead on the website to see what animals will be going to the vet that day. They have an area where you can watch the exam! Oh and they sell beer so you can enjoy a cold beverage and walk around in the heat with it.
Moorten's botanical garden is adorable and beautiful. My husband actually purposed there in their cactus greenhouse. The owner is an older gentleman who is the son of the original owners. He is very nice. Its a tiny garden and doesn't cost much at all. Something like $5.
If you like dates I would say go to Shields. They have every kind of date fruit you could imagine and they even make date shakes.
Two of my favorite restaurants are owned by the same people. Cheekys for brunch and Birba's for dinner. But call ahead to make sure they are open. I believe they close in Aug but I could be wrong.
Another thing I love to do is just drive around the neighborhoods. The architecture is so great. All the mid century modern homes are amazing. Also google Frank Sinatra's home. You can drive by and take a picture in front of it.
I would also recommend just visiting The Parker hotel. Take a walk around the lobby and the grounds. It is such a trippy place. The decor is a complete flashback.
I could name some places to grab drinks but not sure if you are interested.

"Warm" weather? The forecast for this weekend is temps of 110/111F.

Jean, I know it may seem strange to some, but I grew up in a part of California with hot temperatures and still miss the warm nights, same with my boyfriend. We usually try a few times each summer to escape the beach temperatures where we live now, and enjoy sitting out until late in the evening.

To each his/her own. I grew up "inland" and now live at the beach. I like the warm evenings, too, but those Riyadh-like daytime temps don't appeal to me at all.

We had a very nice meal at Johannes, and a couple of just okay meals at Pomme Frites (two different trips). Sherman's Deli was great for breakfast, just okay for lunch/dinner.
