My husband and I are planning a trip to see Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone. We are driving from Denver to Mt Rushmore area first. Do you have suggestions as to how we should spend our time in the Mt Rushmore area? What highlights should we include? Is going to the Badlands worth the trip? How much time do you suggest in Yellowstone? Do we need to book a separate hotel to see Grand Titans. We are over 55 traveling without children.
Thanks.

Before anyone can give any meaningful advice, you'll have to say what things you're hoping to experience.
The area has a lot of stuff geared to kids, but also stuff that could be enjoyed by any age *IF* the people had an interest in the activity. But we don't know yet.

Three days is an ABSOLUTE minimum. If you like to hike to some of the more isolated spots, a couple extra days could be added.

The Grand Tetons are worth a day in and of themselves. I suggest you spend at least one night in that park as well.
I agree with Paul. I don't really have enough information to answer your question, but here are some things to consider:
First of all, Many people try to include both Yellowstone and the Black Hills in one trip. I always recommend against this unless you have more than 8 or ten days to be on Vacation. Both parks have a great deal to offer but they are quite a ways apart. Often people that do this spend all of their time driving and miss alot in both places. Including the Grand Tetons will only make the problem worse unless you have alot of time.
Depending on your interests you will probably need 5 days just to get a good sampling of the activities available in the Black Hills. Here is my list of "must see" attractions:
1) Mt Rushmore
2) Crazy Horse
3) Custer State Park
4) Spearfish Canyon
5) Deadwood/Lead
6) Devils Tower
7) Jewel Cave
8) Wind Cave
9) Mammoth Site
10) Reptile Gardens
And the list continues.
Good Luck
