Moving to Dallas TX Feb 2008
Okay I am moving to Dallas, TX in Feb 2008. Although I haven't been there my family recently went and loved it. I am getting an apartment in North Dallas near Richland College. I need to know what this area is like. It's nice? Just trying to get the opinions of those that reside in Dallas or near this area. Need to know in case I need to get a place in a different area.
Thanks

I live in Dallas but I can't say I'm an expert. It looks like Richland College is at the corner of LBJ and Central Expressway. That area is close to Richardson and Plano. Overall that area is safe. It is very convenient to get to as 2 major highways pass by it.

We've lived in Richardson and Plano for 30 years. The neighborhoods around Richland College have become more international in recent years. Among other things, Texas Instruments has brought in many from Asia and India. There are lots of apartments in the area in a range prices.
North Dallas is to the west of Richland and generally a more upscale area. Plano, where I now live, is also a more upscale community...north of Richardson. Commuting wouldn't be a problem.
If there's something specific you want to know, let me know. [email protected]

You might check out the forums at City Data: http://www.city-data.com/forum/dallas/ There are people there who know a lot about N. Dallas and can tell you what to expect.
Personally, I'll say that the area around Richland College is mixed. The homes are nice, but the apartments can be scary!

I grew up in the Richland area and still live nearby. My family still lives in Garland, not far from Richland.
This area can be very scary. If you are moving to an apartment up on Buckingham, between Abrams and Audelia, that's better.
If the apartment is South of Walnut, I would be careful.
I'm not trying to scare you, but just understand that this has been a bad area for many years. I am sure there are some perfectly decent apartments south of Walnut.
Just be careful.

There are some very nice, newer apartments just west of 75 near LBJ. I believe they're on Coit/Churchill. Will you have a chance to visit before moving? It would be a good idea to drive around and decide what areas you are comfortable in.
