Most single young professionals live in one of these areas:

Hyde Park: close to route 71, close to downtown. Has a nice central square with good shopping and restaurants. Rents are a bit pricey and most are in old Victorian homes, etc.

Clifton Gaslight: This is the area near the university. Very young and professional especially the gaslight area. Urban hip appeal. Good inexpensive restaurants. Older homes and apartment buildings with a lot of charm. Close to downtown.

Oakley: Similar to Hyde Park but less charming and less expensive. Considered up and coming.

Mt. Lookout: Next to Hyde Park, also with its square. Lots of young families here too.

For a pool and fitness center, you'll have to go to the suburbs more than likely...and there aren't as many young professionals out there.

hyde park is great. lived there for years. going there in august.

a lot of young professionals share houses there..

and graeters is in hyde park square, as well as lots of nice terraces and restaurants.

there are a few gyms scattered nearby, too, and excellent non-mall shopping at rookwood pavillion. the is also a whole foods or similar supermarket there with convenient bus service downtown and to the university.

stop by awakenings coffee shop on the square on sunday night and enjoy the jazz with bobby sharp after your ice cream! (tell him his friends from spain sent you!)

mt lookout has a thai restaurant and several pubs. you can't go wrong with this hyde park/mt. lookout/oakley area. lots of afternoon joggers and dog walkers, and several different churches to choose from.

p.s. i do know of a nice house for sharing if you are interested.

Mt Adams areas is very popular as well, but parking can be a nightmare. Hyde Park & Mt Lookout would be my first recommendations for a young single professional. However if you aren't actually going to work in the city, a lot of things in Cincinnati happen outside of the city these days. There are a lot of nice apartment/condo complexes with the perks you are referring to (pool, exercie room, etc) in Mason, Ohio (north of the city). Let us know what you decide!
