Hello Fellow Adventurers!Turning Fifty next year and planning a trip up the coast from SanDiego to Vancouver on a Motorcycle. I'm a seasoned rider but know very little about Oregon/Washington portion of the trip.Taking 2.5 to 3 weeks. Friends and my wife joining on Morro Bay to SanFran/ Wine Coutry leg of trip. Is the coastal US1 road able to be ridden all the way up or should in get into the interior roads at some points along the trip. Scenic things I "must see" on interior roads. I try to avoid "ugly" highway riding when I can. I was also told the ride would be safer but less scenic if I go North route because there would be a lane between me and the edge of the cliff! Agree? I was planning on August to avoid the fog along the coast. Flying in and shipping bike back and forth from Kansas City. Any must sees or advice would be greatly apprecaited. Thank you

CA 1 rejoins US 101 above Fort Bragg. After that it is 101 to the Oregon border and farther on. It might be a good idea to look at a map, if only on Google.
I have driven most of it - from San Diego to the Canadian Border - and I think it's almost all beautiful. Of course, there are some great side excursions too.
August is a great time also - probably the warmest - most fog (marine layer) free time.
Have a blast. There are also other posts in here talking about various places to stop/see, etc.
If you make it all the way from San Diego to Crescent City without an accident, you will be fine on the Oregon coast.
If you wanted a side trip away from the ocean views, take US 199 from Crescent City through Redwood NP to Oregon Caves.
From Oregon Caves, go through Grants Pass over to Crater Lake.
After Crater Lake you can head back to the coast through Merlin and Agness to get back to Gold Beach for your trip north on the Oregon coast.
So head North I guess is what I'm hearing.I've heard alot about Crater lake also. Good advice thank you Tom. August it is then. They said the roads are the most crowded then but the fog and possible colder weather in other seasons is worst than the heavier traffic in August.
I take it that you mean Vancouver BC and not Vancouver WA. Consider shipping the bike home from Seattle and taking the train to Vancouver, seeing the city and then return to Seattle for your flight home. Got your Passport?
