Mother - Daughter weekend in the Hill Country

My young adult daughter and I are planning a weekend somewhere between Austin and San Antonio. We want to shop and float down the river. We would like any ideas on nice places to stay. Thanks in advance.

Gruene would meet your requirement for floating down the river. They usually have a running flea market in the town square

Does "between" mean in the general area?
If so, consider Fredricksburg for lodging and shopping -

If you'd like a little splurge try the Inn above Onion Creek in Kyle. One of the best B&Bs we've stayed at. Wonderful meals. Close enough for lunch in Gruene, rafting in New Brunfels, visits to Wimberley and shopping at the San Marcos outlets.

Just south of Fredricksburg is Escondida Resort. My daughter and I stayed there a couple of years ago for an R&R weekend. Great spa treatments; fantastic food.

Fredericksburg is a lot of fun for shopping. I love Rustlin Rob's for all the free food samples and Dooley's 5-and-10 for a "blast from the past". I had such fun showing my young adult daughter things that I had as a kid at Dooley's.

Just to be clear, Fredericksburg is not between Austin and San Antonio.

When are you coming? New Braunfels and Gruene are experiencing flooding right now and it is not a good time to come. I'm sure it will be fine in a week or more.

The market in Gruene is every other weekend:

follow...thanks for mentioning this...we actually saw this on the news - we won't be going for a couple of weeks, but it is something that we will keep an eye on. Thanks for the site..we might have to try to do it during one of those weekends.

Lamb's Rest B & B in New Braunfels was amazing. Near Gruene (1 mile or so. A great central location.

Highly recommend Lindsay's haven guesthouse in Fredericksburg! My mom and I stayed there this fall. http://www.fbglodging.com/Lodging/lnhav.htm Many of the B&B/Guest houses are set up for a couple, but this one is perfect for mom and daughter!
