Mosser Hotel in San Francisco, CA

My husband and I will be in S.F. for 4 nights in September and are looking for a moderately priced, conveniently located hotel with some character and charm. The Mosser Hotel looks like it might be a good choice for us. What can you tell us about your stay there? Any other hotels you might recommend? Thanks for your input.

What is your exact budget? That would help with other suggestions.

I was in San Francisco in June and found it much harder than I expected to pay under $200 for a room. I had luck on booking.com and ended up at the Chancellor Hotel just off Union Square. It was fine - the bathrooms are a bit old, but it worked well for us. Friendly staff and good location for transit, walkable to a lot if you like to walk.

We don't really have an "exact budget" but would be happy to stay under $250.00 for a room per night.

We have stayed at The Mosser and it is a great choice. Top location, very clean but small rooms. Some rooms have private baths, other share hall bath. Our room had private bath but I did peek in the hall bath - it was clean [it is cleaned throughout the day to keep it tidy] and seemed like it would do the job. It is a good option when prices are so high all around. We had a Deluxe Full room.

We were all set to stay there again this coming October but I was able to find a great deal at The Serrano Hotel. I did have to prepay but with the InTouch Loyalty Program, you get free wi-fi; coffee service in the morning and free wine hour each night. I got a rate of $150, Senior/AARP with the prepay. You'll need to check your dates. A lot depends on the dates, there is a HUGE convention there in Sept [22nd - 26th and prices are sky high.

Thank you for the good info. We are going to be there earlier in the month so I am going to give The Mosser a try. I'll let you know.

CLBtravel; the poster hwm hasn't posted here since that post, so I don't think you're going to get a reply.

While it has been awhile since we stayed, it seems that it still gets really good reviews:

I stayed there a few years ago. Good location. Initially, I had a room with a shared bath, but after some difficulty with my card key not operating properly after a day or so, they upgraded me to a room with a bathroom, at no extra charge. Seems like a lot of foreigners stay there, since I don't think they mind the shared bath idea as much as Americans seem to. I never had to wait, and it was very clean for the one day I had used it. I do recall walking past a nice looking hotel nearly next door to the Mosser and thought I'd try that one next time, however I don't recall the name.

The Palomar (a Kimpton Hotel) is next door to the Mosser.

Just got back from 7 night stay at the Mosser and was very satisfied. Room was very, very clean. It was small (and bathroom also very small) but was well-arranged. Hotel convenient to sight seeing and convention center. Close to plenty of restaurants, shopping, with a large Walgreen's a half a block away. Good coffee (also tea and donut holes) available in lobby every morning; I enjoyed conversation with other guests.
