I'm wondering whether you can drive your own car into Monument Valley or if you must take a tour? On another thread half the posters say you can and half say you can't. Some say you can only drive around the perimeter on a paved road while some say you can drive into the Valley on a bumpy, unpaved road? Could someone please clarify this?
More confused now than before reading this board!

First, try mentioning your destination in your topic title - the same forum covers the entire country so many people will skip over threads with no location specified.
Second, you can take your own car on a tour of the valley - there are areas where you can't go that the tribal tours can - but you can still see plenty. The road is dirt but not in terrible condition; just go slow etc.
The public highways leading to the tribal visitor center are all paved, it's only the valley floor road that isn't.
Big Daddy, since (as you say) this board has already provided inconsistent information, why come here for the final word, rather than going to the park's own web site???
