Monterey Hotel Fr Under $200/Night
I'm planning a trip to Monterey, CA in April. Can you suggest any reasonable/budget hotels close to or within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf and the Aquarium? I don't need anything fancy; just something clean and not ant or rodent infested.
I posted a question earlier about the Best Western Monterey Inn...that seems like a good place to stay but I'm clueless...I've never been there before. Any suggestions? Thank you

I tell everyone I know to call Resort II Me. www.resort2me.com
They are a hotel room finder for just for the Monterey Peninsula area. They can give you lots of choices, find good deals for you, etc. Depending on the time of year, there can be lots of great places here for most reasonable prices. Good luck

Check out www.pacificgrove.org for a list of all the hotels and bed and breakfasts in Pacific Grove...America's Last Hometown and best place on the Monterey Peninsula....unknown by some tourists or thought to be Monterey by others.

Use Priceline. I have gotten two very nice hotels on their for great rates. You can check www.biddingfortravel.com before you bid to see what hotels folks have gotten.

Also..I think, depending on the time of year, both the Monterey Plaza and the Doubletree would have "deals" for less than $200/noc. See if you can book either through the websites listed. There is a free shuttle that makes its way around the wharf and down to the aquarium. The Doubletree is in walking distance to the wharf and the Plaza is close to the stops for the shuttle. The Plaza also has a day spa which is $12.50/day for guests. It has some of the most advanced workout machines I've ever used, treadmills with a view of the Monterey Bay and rooftop hottubs. April should be magnificent there. Also..be sure to take a ride out to Point Lobos State Park.

We never stay in Monterey itself. It is just tooo expensive. We always stay in Marina, which is about 10 minute drive to Cannery Row. There is a Motel 6 (($55), Tavelodge, Comfort Inn. We always stay at Motel 6 because it has a new Denny's in the parking lot. Not fancy, but cheap!

You all have been so helpful. Monterey Inn sounds nice though I learned it's a good 20-30 minute walk to the aquarium. I'm trying to find accomodations that near cannery row, the wharf, the aquarium. Quality Inn Cannery Row seems reasonable. Is it a decent and clean. Doesn't need to be fancy. How about these properties: Spindrift Inn, Monterey Bay Inn, Otter Inn? I know the first two are pricey but a small chance that I can get a room at a reasonable rate.

Yes all those "attractions" you listed are close to one another. There is a free shuttle that makes a loop along that route. It can also be done by walking along the water either as a whole or in parts. You'll be there in APril so the weather should be beautiful and the walk a pleasant part of your stay there.

My understanding is that the free shuttle runs during the summer months (May through September 1st). I'll be there in April. I know there is public transit in Monterey. Is their a bus stop close to either the BW Monterey Inn or Casa Munras Garden Hotel?
They say Monterey Inn is 6 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. Are these long or short blocks? Sorry for the 20,000 questions...I've never been there before and I'm trying to get a general idea of the area.

To my memory the name of the shuttle is "The Wave". See if you can confirm the dates it is in operation. I think I have seen it as early as March(the last time I was in Monterey). Again, depending on your walking needs/wants/limitations the walk to the wharf from the aquarium is not a long one. It is along a paved path with some beautiful scenery and very flat.
I'd say it is a 20-30 stroll max.
