Montana
We are planning a trip in August to Montana, Glacier NP, Bitterroots, etc. We have no time limits. Suggestions on what to see and where to stay in Glacier. Most places have mediocre reviews. Like self contained units or peaceful resorts if at all possible.

Glacier NP is of course beautiful. Don't miss Going to the Sun road, the only road across the park. MANY Hiking opportunities, if U like that. For a relatively quick hike that will get you some beautiful views and, if UR lucky, close up mountain goat sitings, take the trail behind the logan pass visitors center. It's pretty obvious, but just ask inside and they'll point it out.
As for loging, I've stayed in all 3 NP lodges within the part. As examples of rustic "parkitecture", they are each great. Dining rooms are adequate, but UR not there for the food. Even if you don't stay in the park, I'd suggest at least seeing the lodges, unless you have no interest in classic rustic.

When you travel down the bitterroot, I would recommend looking into some of the privately owned lodges.
These facilities are usually all inclusive and offer great discounts on activities like fly fishing, rafting, and golf.
Not sure of the exact dates but the Stevensville Creamery Picnic happens that month and is a party that shouldn't be missed.
If you're going to Missoula and would like some info on that location, I'd be happy to help.

depends on how long you want to be in different locations, how much you want to spend.
I spent a longer time at Glacier so i rented a house for a week, this was in hungry horse montana, see vrbo.com, ox yoke inn. (it's really a rental apt. and it is beautiful.) the price has gone up a bit since i stayed....
most rentals are not going to take less than 3 or 4 nights..
but there are places to stay, you need to do some searching.
Glacier is mainly a hiking park, but the "walker" not hiker can find tons to see and do.
Glacier and the bitteroots are far apart. the bitteroots are nearer yellowstone. and there are pleanty of resorts in the grand teton, yellowstone area you can get very high end.
Glacier is much more remote. but you may find more luxuorius digs at Big Sky ski resort in whitefish. this is only a 25(?) minute drive to the west side of glacier.

When is the test fest in rock creek that is an experience, look into it. Between gnp and missoula down the bitterroot you have a ton of options. Take in missoula, the galleries, bars and such and stevi is a great town as well.. You'll do fine.

oops thanx for catching that it's big mountain, you might also want to check out the town of Big Fork it's nearby Glacier, it's got cute shops and galleries, and most likely B&B's. sorry for the mistake
