Monico's Tacqeria Wailua, Kauai, HI
Read a review in Sunset magazine about fish tacos and one of the best is in Kauai where we will be heading soon. Has anyone eaten there lately. The magazine was 3 years old.
Monico's Taqueria, Wailu, Kauai, HI.. Anywhere else for Fish Taco's. Hanalei used to have good ones but cannot remember the name of the restaurant. Does Duke's still have $1.00 Taco night on Tuesday and if so re they fish or meat?

I've only heard good things about Monico's but haven't eaten there.
I shared a table with people eating the fish tacos at Pat's Tacqueria truck parked at the Hanalei Pier. My kahlua pork burrito was delicious--and my table-mates said their tacos were very good, too. They looked small to me--compared to the burrito. You might want two orders if you're hungry!

This is the first trip we didn't eat there but our local pals still go there and refer people there. Haven't heard anyone come back to the Sand Bar and complain.
Duke's raised their prices to maybe $2-3/taco now.
We liked the fish tacos at Kilauea Fish Mkt behind the Coconut Marketplace in Kapaa.
Oasis at the Waipouli Condos, across from Safeway, had some very good fish and a very good ocean view.

Monico's is No Ka Oi (the best) Mexican food on the island. The mole' is the genuine deal and everything is authentic, authentic, authentic. I have spent a few years down in various parts of Mainland Mexico, so I can vouch for it. Generous portions and fair pricing.
Hint: don't load up on chips too early while you wait! And everything is good with a Negra Modelo or Bohemia cerveza.
