Molokini Crater

Has anybody snorkeled off of Molokini Crater? If so, what were your thoughts? Was it scary? OK for a scared mom and a 12 year old girl? lol

It has been a few years but my husband and son signed up for this and never made it out because of the rough waters. Apparently this happens a lot. My sister in law just got back and did the turtle bay(?) snorkel trip and loved it...

I love to snorkel (and travel with my snorkel gear) and was underwhelmed with Molokini.

I am not a fan of Molikini either. It seemed too crowded with boats to me. I agree about being underwhelmed, LOL. I also have my own snorkel gear. I prefer a snorkel trip to Lanai. Black Rock (Sheraton, Kaanapali Beach) and Fletcher State Beach are good for snorkeling on your own.

Ha, ha..I mean never made it out to the crater as, on route, the water became rough so they went to a little side area and snorkelled there..not that goof.

Molokini can be nice snorkeling. There are lots of other people around, so you can feel safe.

The boat trip out there is worth it for the gorgeous views of south Maui.

I agree with hpeabody. If you are looking for a snorkel/boating adventure, the trip to Lanai was much better. Good snorkelling too.

Molokini is ok for snorkeling but the fish aren't abundant like they used to be..we did swim with a very rare monk seal..gorgeous!
The catamaran ride was fun but I think there are better spots in Maui..
Black Rock is a good spot.
I was not scared and we snorkeled for a good 2 hours and did not see a shark.

I snorkeled there with my 12 year old daughter. She had a bit of snorkeling experience and I had none. We went with Quiksilver and had a wonderful time. The fish were plentiful. There were lots of folks snorkeling there, but not so many that there were flippers in our faces. Go do it, scared mom. You'll dig it.
