Mobile, Alabama to Savannah in one day...Crazy???
am i crazy to assume this, we are really limited on days and so would prefer to not have to stop overnight between, but if this is completely unrealistic would prefer to know....

Mapquest shows 2 possible routes, The Tallahassee route or the northern route through Columbus using I-65. 8 hours 14 minutes either way. 540 vs. 504 miles.
Be ready to flop in bed instead of sightseeing and partying when you get there.

If you left Mobile very early 0600 or earlier, you could stop at Okefenokee national park and enjoy an hour or so visit,if you did'nt mind arriving Savannah after 1000pm.Or visit Cumberland Island or Sea Island before going north on I-95.

I would probably go the southern route. I-10 is long, straight and boring, but it's fast. Jacksonville has an outer loop so you don't have to drive right through town.
You could leave at 9:00 AM, have a leisurely lunch and easily get to Savannah by nightfall (around 8:00 PM in late August).

It's very doable. I like the route Brian in Charlotte describes best. You never go into JAX and that section of I-10 across the panhandle is one of the best--good road conditions and often divided by heavyily treed areas, making for a pleasant drive. Get your gas at the start of the panhandle drive. You can go long distances between towns.

Just remember you're starting out in Central Time and ending in Eastern Time, so you'll "lose" and hour.
That said, we've done it before. A long day, yes, but not anything out of the ordinary for us when we're just trying to get from Point A to Point B so we can have the maximum time at the fun places.
Have a safe trip.
