Mission Ranch - Carmel

My husband and I are coming to Carmel area in the beginning of October. Most places are so expensive. The Mission ranch is reasonable. Can anyone tell me about this place. I am also considering Seven Gables, Monterey Plaza Hotel. We were looking at Tickle Me Pink but it seems it is a drive from things to do. Also very pricey. Would appreciate reviews on Mission Ranch. I have looked at some on-line reviews already and they were pretty good.

The Tickle Pink motel is a great favorite, but it is indeed a bit out of town. If you want a pleasant but not too pricey motel right in Carmel, have a look at the BW Carmel Bay View Inn. Pretty rooms, nice baths, pool, breakfast.

In addition to price, your choice will depend upon what you want to see/do:

Mission Ranch is adjacent to the Carmel mission church and a large rush-filled lagoon. Quiet, but within short drive to Carmel Village and Highway One.

Seven Gables is in Pacific Grove -- a more residential area, within easy drive to Monterey.

Monterey Plaza is next to the Monterey Wharf, putting you within walking distance of downtown and wharf shops and dining.

Tickle Pink is south of Carmel, above Highway One (spectacular view!). Drive to Carmel will be 10 minutes or so; downtown Monterey (near the wharf) will be another 10-15 minutes.

After many years of going to the Monterey Penninsula we always stay in the southern end of Carmel near Carmel River, either at the Mission Ranch or in a house that we rent. The Mission Ranch is very nice IMHO--I like the location very much as it is away from all the tourist activity on Ocean in Carmel and feels more peaceful and restful. I don't know how a first time visitor would like the area therefore--you may feel a bit removed from "activity" but that is precisely the reason we stay there.

Thanks for such quick response. SAB what room would you recommend. Also exactly how far is Mission Ranch from Carmel, Monterey and Big Sur? We prefer a quiet place but within a short drive to activities. Also how is the food there?

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Mission Ranch's famous owner........and former mayor of Carmel. Linda, it's an easy drive to everywhere. The Monterey Penn. is not very big. The Mission Inn is in a great area. I think it looks like a lovely place to stay.
