Missed another "Sunday" Amazing Race!

I cannot get used to correlating Sunday night with Amazing Race. So I missed another episode (10/1) and can kick myself. And no, I don't have TIVO. Rats. Can someone give me a synopsis? I don't think I can bear waiting a whole week for Phil to do a recap.

offlady, there's usually a pretty good re-cap on the CBS website.

As for last night's show...oh no!!! Duke & Lauren are no more - one of the teams for which I was cheering It was weird to see that woman in Vietnam basically just "cheat" them for a free ride. I think Lauren had every right to be irritated.

I was surprised to see the academics finish first, quite a jump from the previous week.

And I was very happy to see the single moms be helpful and mindful of others (offering the Kentucky team a ride in their cab - even tho they didn't all fit, their offer seemed sincere). I think the Kentucky team gave them a barrel of water for that last very physical challenge.

This leg seemed significantly less physical but was a lot more maze-like. Strange some teams seemed to find the venues right away while others seemed very lost. It'd be interesting if on their website they put a street map of where the clue box was relative to the roadblock and the route the teams took to get there.

Enjoy-la!

I thought it was tremendously touching when Erwin and Godwin had a moment of silence in the Hanoi Hilton remembering our brave American servicemen; David also had something nice to say - he was honored to be there for his dad who had served in VN. The rest of the teams seemed clueless as to the significance of the Hanoi Hilton - they simply ran in and out. Lest we forget.

Poetic justice that Erwin and Godwin won the leg after their moment of silence put them in last place.

Tom and Terry picked up the 30 minute penalty, and it seems as if all the teams (except last place) were within that 30 minute time period. Hard to tell as you're watching just what the time gap is. Seems to me you should get more than 30 minutes for a flagrant violation of contest rules.

Three episodes and they've already eliminated four teams - I wonder when they'll start the non-elimination legs?

I have to admit that I have some mixed feelings about the Hanoi Hilton being utilized as a 'clue drop' by the show, and was even more amazed that it is now a museum, but life goes on. I agree, I thought it extremely touching that Erwin and Godwin took a moment to honor the dead and surviviors, and it was only fitting that they won the leg. With Duke and Lauren gone, for that act alone I will root for them.

I agree with Lori - I was quite surprised to see the Hanoi Hilton is a tourist destination, but I suppose that's better than shuttering it up and not acknowledging what happened there.

True, Godwin and Erwin are "academics", but I've actually been disappointed with their performance until last night, because they are also in really good shape (you'll remember from the Great Wall challenge, they have very muscular arms).

Offlady, not to beat a dead horse, but you've got to get TiVo or at least a DVR from your cable company. That way, you won't ever have to worry about missing what you really want to see. It's a shame that network shows don't do instant repeats like Bravo (for example, on their "sister" networks).

You can read a very detailed synposis of every episode of the Amazing Race on www.televisionwithoutpity.com. The summaries are excellent and will post in a few days, but there's a little "recaplet" in the meantime.

Just a thought. I do have DVR and set it up to record TAR, but I did not set to record the show afterwards. Apparently football ran long so we did not get the end. Luckily we were able to change to that channel and hit record and it went back to the beginning and were able to get the whole show. Just to be safe you need to record the show following as well.

With a Sunday scheduled time of 8PM ET, I think we can anticipate late starts. Football seems to run late more times than not.

I read on the aforementioned "Television Without Pity" that the "museum" at the Hanoi Hilton portrays the terrible way the French treated the Vietnamese. I also was uncomfortable that the producers chose to include that particlular location. Has anyone here visited it? I was pretty disgusted that so many racers ran right through it without much apparent pause to reflect. Erwin and Godwin are now my favorite team.

Yeah Bears! 37 to 6 I won't ever switch on that race again.

I channeled over at half time and was floored to see them at the Hanoi Hilton. My best friend Jim who died in the tunnels would just love to know that Americans are running through trying to make bucks on a tv race and ripping clue envelopes out of host hands while walking all over each other where he expired at 21 in agony.

Actually he would probably laugh, but not with approval, but with his ironic wit.

I couldn't believe my eyes. I almost felt like I could vomit. Think about what it would be like in the media or the outcry that would occur if they tried to use a Nazi deathcamp or Russian gulag in the same matter as they used that Hanoi site on AR. With flippancy and total non-respect.

I couldn't handle it for more than a minute, and am glad to hear that some few people "got it" and had a soul.

That was disgusting and whoever made that decision should be fired.

I was pretty disgusted with how the whole Hanoi Hilton thing went too. I don't know anything about the museum itself - how the history is portrayed or anything. I wouldn't be suprised that it has an anti-French or anti-American slant though - as well all know, history is writen by the winners.

I am not disgusted that it is a museum because I think it is important to preserve the bad along with the good lest we forget. I am not even disgusted that the Hanoi Hilton was included as part of the race. They have gone to other places with a similar feeling - the prison in Senegal, I believe it was, where the slaves where held before being shipped to the western hemisphere comes to mind.

What really got me was how the visit to the Hanoi Hilton was done. It was basically just a run in, get the clue, and run out type of thing. No reverence, no stop to think about where you are and what has occured there. That really bothered me.

Tourists go to Robbin Island in South Africa, where Nelson Madela was imprisoned and many atrocities were committed, so I don't see any difference in the Hanoi Hilton. People also visit the remnants of the concentration camps. People need to remember.

Erwin and Godwin have been favorites of mine from the start. I was sorry to see the Father/Daughter team go. Agree the 30 minute penalty was too lenient for breaking a rather serious rule that gave that team an advantage actually. Almost feel they should have been eliminated rather than the team that was.

I think those of you who are upset by the Hanoi Hilton segment are blaming the wrong people. It was some of the teams who were disrespectful, as teams have been in other similar settings in previous races. There always seem to be a few who show respect and proper decorum in these situations and others who are clueless. It seems to me a good idea to have made a museum of this infamous place, and it is after all in Hanoi so slanting or trying to change history is to be expected.

We missed last week's segment. We were in St. Augustine on vacation and got back to the hotel too late to watch it. I gather the cheerleaders were the team eliminated there. I noticed someone being dragged by a horse (foot caught in the stirrup) in the review of last week's show. What was that all about? Looked pretty scary!

For anyone who was intrigued by the Viet Nam segment and would like to read a fascinating book, Catfish and Mandala by Andrew Pham is just excellent.

Yes, people need to remember, I have no problem at all with the Hanoi Hilton bieng a museum and this particular visit couldn't have been more topical if it had been planned. However, the Racers wouldn't have been running through it if the producers hadn't included that site. However, I'll be interested to see how many of you are so sanguine about it if they ever use a former concentration camp as a clue drop.

I wonder what Senator McCain would have thought about the inclusion of the museum.. I guess it speaks to a person's character as to how they acknowledge a place where Americans had a significant history.
I respected the brothers for their moment of respect, and though it is a race, the way most of the contestants snatched the envelopes and ran was pretty bad.
My younger son commented about the prisoners of war and we talked about it some afterwards. Our family history of relatives in the service and his desire to be in the military when he's older played a part.

There were a few things that either made me laugh or sad. One was the way Terry and Tom had a fit when they walked past one of the reservation workers and stood around and then they were all over the beauty queens for stepping up. Hey if you aren’t paying attention then you lose your turn. Hardcore but it’s a game, so is musical chairs!

I can’t believe how much this group runs around looking for stuff. Maybe they need to ask for directions and then listen to them.

I thought the lady who promised to take Duke and Lauren to their destination and then took them out of their way was awful. She was so dishonest. Have we ever seen that happen to anyone else before? I’ve never seen that myself but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. I was sad to see them go. I was rooting for them.

I think the ‘bama moms, the TN couple and Terry and Tom act very sweetly to one another. Don’t know if that will take them far in the game but it sure is nice to see.

Sarah and her partner are always so quitting. From the previews they are at it again next week. Geez eliminate them already.

Speaking of eliminating, I am ready to not see any more eliminating. It’s scary every week to see the teams being eliminated.

Well, I guess than it's ok to play a game of kick the can on Ground Zero, or maybe we could all find a number behind the skulls in Cambodia at the displays of the killing fields.

And people ask on the Savannah thread why there is crime and what happened to people! Total insensitivity and selfishness has, and exposure to tv violence and cultural c**p. Add some drugs and the acceptance that my "feel good" overrides it all.

I'm disgusted. Really, really disgusted.

And Sen. McCain thinks the entire place is "slanted"- the victor's "history".
