A friend and I will be staying for 3 nights in Minneapolis in early May and are looking for a nice hotel with a lot of restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance. From our research, it looks like we can get a pretty good deal on the Crowne Plaza Northstar.
Does anyone have any advice regarding this hotel, particularly the safety of the area and the location in relation to the dining/nightlife areas of the city? Is it accessible to public transportation to/from the airport? Any recommendations for other hotels would be most appreciated as well.....
Thanks in advance.

I guess it depends on how far you want to walk. Most of the action downtown is on Nicollet Mall, Hennepin Ave, or 1st Ave N (which is not one block from that hotel) between 7th and 12th. The safety, again, is relative to where you're coming from. I don't think it's scary, but I did when I first moved here from a small town. Cab fare will be pretty cheap, and cabs are pretty easy to get. The Marriott is the most central, and the Hyatt is easy to walk to fun restaurants and bars along Nicollet Mall. (Nicollet Mall is a street, of course, not a 'mall'.) The Minneapolis Star Tribune has a section called 'scene' on Fridays... you could check that online as well. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier, hope it helps.
