Mini-trip-report: tea in Sarasota
Had a short stay in Sarasota almost all on mother-care business, but we went to tea at Tastefully British http://www.tastefullybritish.com/ tucked in a small, odd stripmall on the far south end of things, a block or two off the south end of Tamiami Trail/rte. 41 in Sarasota. (You may need a map to get there.)
It's a charming little store-plus-tea-room, with attention to detail and British expats in charge. We ordered the "traditional" high tea for two, and the scone with Devon Cream was lovely (although you'd think for 2 people, you'd get 2 scones).
Recommend it when you've about had it with coconut shrimp, gigantic steaks, or mall food -- a good place for brunch or lunch before or tea after dealing with the nearby mall or on your way to or from Siesta Key. Worth poking around the Gulf Gate area to find it.

I'm wondering if it was because we were the last party seated (last seating is 4 pm), and they'd run out of scones -- we were told they'd run out of quiche on one of the other menu selections. They do make it all themselves, right there, from scratch. Tastes that way, too.

Thanks Cassandra
We're heading there for the month of March, as we did last year- and must have missed this little shop. I wonder if it's the little strip mall around the corner from the Wine warehouse- in the same spot as the Cafe Bologna??? Both well worth a visit, by the way!
We did high tea at the Ritz, last year, which was much fun- but would lke to try this one this year.

According to their menu online the high tea for two included "sconeS" with strawberry jam and Devon Cream. So perhaps they did run out of them and hopefully substituted more of something else. But I would have expected them to have told you of this change.

Dear Cassandra.
Thank you for visiting our tearoom,i am sorry you were in any way dissappointed with your visit. The "traditional"high tea is for one person(there is a typing error on the menu it should read scone not scones). We do however have many visitors that share this tea for which we make a nominal charge of $2.It would appear that this may of been the case when you visited, we gladly provide extra scones and deserts for our guests if required.

tamzyn, wondering who alerted you to this forum. Welcome.
We were there last in the day before closing, which is why I assumed you'd run out -- and I don't have the menu in front of me, but since there were two of everything else, and there were two of US, I assumed that the single scone was an oversight. Suggest some editorial clarification to avoid confusion - or just add the words "for 2, $2 surcharge," perhaps. Something like that.
But not to worry, I sent my sister there and -- obviously -- others because I enjoyed the visit. Hope to see you again next time I'm down there.

I don't know if I'll ever be down that way, but I do think it a bit poor to make excuses by saying there's a typo on the menu: "there is a typing error on the menu it should read scone not scones." Most restaurants would be expected to make good on the second scone if it's on the menu, or else the error should be mentioned when the guests sit down.
