Trip Report Mini Trip Report Hermosa Beach GIrlfried Getaway

Jump to last reply

Seeking a girlfriend getaway, I flew from Altanta to LA and met up with my girl friend who drove up from San Diego.

Stayed at Beach House Hotel in Hermosa Beach. Lovely location RIGHT on the beach, friendly staff, decent continental breakfast and good rates. Had a first floor room which I paused about when checking in, but then they said it was “complimentary upgrade” so stuck with it. All the rooms beach side seem lovely but it was a bit odd to be RIGHT on the strand, and next time I might prefer to be just above so that people can’t just look right in your room and you can see past all the walkers and bikers out to the ocean a bit easier.

First night dinner at La Sosta Enoteca was lovely. Delicious pasta, nice ambience, good service. Other reviewers talked about very small portions and expensive prices, and this was true. Next day took a great walk on the beach, brunch at Martha’s. Delicious, although not as sublime as I would have thought from some other reviews. Later headed to the Getty museum. Incredible views, setting, buildings. $15 parking and no other entry frees. Free tours, free audio guides. Spent about 3 hours and could have spent more but we were missing our room on the beach! I wasn’t as impressed by the café at the Getty as I expected. Didn’t look as fresh and was too cafeteria like. We thought we would have had more there but decided to head back to our fantastic beachside location for wine and cheese on the room balcony.

Then headed for the 2 mile walk up to Manahattan Beach and the MBPost restaurant. It was super crowded and super loud. Lovely menu. We were a little too full from happy hour to fully check it out. I’d love to go back.

Next morning enjoyed the continental breakfast at the hotel. BTW I was on East Coast time and I left the room around 5:30 each morning to read in the lobby atnd there was ALWAYS hot coffee and a cozy fire there. The continental breakfast was from 6am-11am, always tidy and stocked. Oh and free wi-fi. Don’t you hate it when hotels charge your for wi-fi!.

Rented bikes right next door at Hermosa Cyclery went for a nice bike ride stopping for lunch in Manhattan Beach, did a little shopping, biked back for more chilling on the balcony. Then spiffed up to head to Pantages Theater for the closing night of WICKED. Grabbed a bite at Wood and Vine across the street before the show. Menu was a little limited on Sunday. Dessert was fantastic. The show was wonderful and such a treat to be in the Pantages (I had never been). This was not that convenient from hotel
