Well, I think the topic is pretty self explanatory. I'm going to be in town for two nights for a mini vacation and trying to decide if I should drive or take the train. If I take the train, that obviously means I'll be walking or using public transportation to get to the museums, zoo and maybe Miller Park. I'm staying downtown at the Intercontinental. So what do you think? Thanks.

From what I remember from my trip there, we definitely needed our car but we didnt research public transportation as we were going to need the car regardless

Which museums do you want to see? I'd guesstimate that the Public Museum is less than 3/4 miles away, the Art Museum about a mile, and the Harley Davidson Museum about 1 1/4 miles--but all in different directions.
Personally, if I only had two days, I wouldn't bother with the Zoo. But, when it comes to zoos, I'm a "seen one, seen them all" kind of person.

There is indeed a local bus that goes from downtown Milwaukee over to Miller Park and back -- I took this when I wanted to catch a game there on a day trip from Chicago. It's on the western edge of town and too far to walk there from downtown.
If you're coming from Chicago via public transportation, definitely take the train. All reports suggest it's reliable. Greyhound buses going out here from Chicago can leave you stranded in the station for hours, unfortunately, as they routinely board everyone who is traveling beyond Milwaukee first, regardless of when they arrive -- then if there's room will take folks only going as far as Milwaukee. And if they don't have room, you have to wait for the next bus (or buses) out. On top of all that, the line here tends to degenerate into a rugby scrum, sorry to say, and reporting the problem to station personnel tends to fall on deaf ears. I'll never ever travel by bus between the two cities again.
