Miles for room Las Vegas/Pay for upgrade?
I am terrible about asking for upgrades, but I am willing to try. We are planning on staying at the MIrage, using Continental points. I realize that the rooms we get will be right over the booming nightclub with probably only one bed. I'd like an upper floor with two beds in each room (we will have three rooms). Does anyone know if this could work? I'd be willing to pay fro the upgrade on two of the rooms? Any success or advise?
Thanks!
Thanks!

If the hotel is full you won't get them. If it's fairly empty you may get all the upgrades without paying.
In my experience the best way to get an upgrade is to be pleasant, ask politely if there are any upgrades available (let them mention cost). If there is a direct link between the hotel and the points then you can mention membership - if not - don;t bring it up.

To find out if the hotel will be busy when you are going to go, go to the hotel's web page. Look for the site that shows costs for each day of the month. A set of calendars comes up with the cost for the room each day. Costs vary greatly with expected occupancy.
Recently one site I visited showed rates from over $200/night to under $40/night. If you're there when its low, good chance for an upgrade.

Use CO FF miles for rooms a lot.
Request directly from the Hotel as you book
"High floor room with view"
The early bird gets the worm usually.
Vegas pretty dead but more booked on weekends
Have never paid for upgrades.
If the hotel has a preferred guest program
antoher trick is to join that for best available
room even suites on check in...
Marriott SPG Priority and Wyndham all do this for me.

Elaine - what dates are you going? I was following your other thread too and am thinking maybe I can try to find you some deals at the Mirage? If you're going in August I bet you can get cheap room rates and it's probably not "worth" using your CO miles.
