Mid-March visator to Boston needs help planning

My husband and I are going to Boston for ten days mid March and would like help where to stay that is central to doing tourist type things mid price range ie we don't need the fancy extras but would like en-suite. We want to walk the freedom trail - okay at this time??? We thought travelling in to the mountains would be enjoyable -- mode of transport recommende ? and suggestions too please. Thanks in anticipation

the freedom trail in mid-march will be anyone's guess. windy? rainy? sunny? with 10 days to play with, you are bound to hit some true spring-like weather. one wonderful breath of spring at that time is the Boston Flower Show......a beautiful and lush presentations of flora and fauna. can't help too much with a suggestion for lodging...have always had good luck with Omni-parker. Also, try to eat at the Bay Tower, great food and gorgeous view. And the north end offers authentic italian bakeries and eateries. enjoy.

Regarding hotels, you mention "mid price" range. Keep in mind that the average hotel price per night hovers around $200. March is right around the corner so I would book accommodations now! For a big city, Boston does not have a large bed base. I would stay in the Back Bay. Some hotels to look into are: The Lenox, The Eliot, Newbury Guest House, Copley Marriott, Back Bay Hilton, and the Copley Plaza. Another great place to stay would be Harvard Square in Cambridge. Easily accesible to Boston by the 'T'. The Charles Hotel is very nice. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your suggestions -- busy looking into those hotel suggestions.
Any suggestions whether its worth trying to travel inland to the mountains and how??
Looking forward to something quite different

You would probably need to rent a car to drive up the the VT and NH mountains. The Mount Washington Hotel at Bretton Woods is spectacular (www.brettonwoods.com) and the Woodstock Inn & Resort in Woodstock, VT is also very nice. If you like to ski, you'll be here just in time for some great spring skiing.

Boston is my favorite city. Walk the Freedom Trail, but dress warm! I recomend the Newbury Guest House if you want to be in the heart of the action - shopping, restaurants, clubs, etc. It can get alittle noisy. The John Jefferies is good if you want something alittle out of the way and quieter. I would not, and could not, afford most of the hotels in Boston.
Not sure which mountains you are refering to. You can take a bus to the Berkshires. Again, the weather will be somewhat raw. Better to go up the coast to Cape Anne. Visit the seaport towns.

Boston is a wonderfully compact city -- walking & the subway (the "T") are great ways of getting around. As for accommadations, you also may consider some places in Cambridge, which is the homeplace of Harvard (no --- you can't actually paaahk ya caa in Hahvad Yaahd) -- but you can walk thru it.
Cambridge is on the other side of the Charles River from Boston. And a hotel close to an MBTA (again, the "T") would be a good option.

Check out this website --- I've not used Karen Brown for domestic trips however she's quite reliable in her descriptions for B&B's in Italy.
