Miami Beach - Parking Garage on 46th and Collins
Hello,
We will be staying at Renaissance Eden Roc Beach Resort & Spa on Miami beach over the Labor Day weekend. We are thinking of getting a rental car but would hate to pay $30/day for valet parking at the hotel. Apparently there is a municipal parking lot (#P71) on Collins and 46th street, just north of the hotel. Can someone provide more information about this lot? What are the hours of operation? Do they run out of space? Also, what is the cost? Thank you in advance.

Did a drive by yesterday - its a parking lot - single level - no garage. Its metered by the machine that you pay in advance and put the ticket on your dashboard. Its probably $1 an hour but it could be $2 an hour - because it is on the beach. Im assuming its open 24 hours and the busiest times are when people come to the beach (10am-4pm?)
Seems like valeting would be about the same cost and then you dont have to worry about spaces.
Do you plan on leaving the beach while you are here for the weekend?? If not, I would nix the rental car and take a cab or the Super Shuttle from the airport. Getting around Miami Beach via cab is easy and not that expensive. In the end it will be much cheaper.
If you plan on doing more sightseeing - Ft. Lauderdale, Coral Gables, Downtown etc. You will need a car.

MiamiBeachMama and GoTravel, thank you for your replies.
MiamiBeachMama, I can't believe you went out of your way to answer my question. Your efforts are sincerely appreciated!
We've been to the area before but stayed in the South Beach portion and didn't rent the car. This time around we will be visiting with a 9-month old baby, staying off South Beach and thought that having a car may prove useful (also in view of the fact that we may decide to visit friends friends in Sunny Isles). We may also decide to dine out and visit South Beach one evening. However, with just the cost of parking being $90, we can probably take cabs everywhere and not worry about the rental.
Thanks again!
