Miami and Key West

I am looking for advise with regard to this trip. My husband and I are flying into Miami on 10/28. We are driving to Key West for Halloween but do not have reservations in Key West until 10/29, any recommendations on a hotel in Miami for that night. We are looking for a reasonbly priced place, close to decent nightlife combined with easy exit to the A1A for the morning drive.

Also we are staying at the Crowne Plaza on Duval Street 10/29-10/31. Is this a decent hotel and is the location pretty good for Halloween activities?

I realize that no one will know what we like but this is the first trip I have planned to Key West and am hoping I did not make any critical mistakes that would be obvious to a Floridian.

Thank you for any input!

The Marquesa Hotel in Key West is the bee's knees. Private and just off Duval (which tends to get loud and crazy). Restaurant is excellent.

My husband stays here on boy's trips. They must like it as have been back many times.

Have also stayed at the Pier House. Very Nice.

You MUST eat at Blue Heaven. Ignore the chickens.

The Crown Plaza has a rooftop venue/bar which is our favorite place to catch the sunset. You do have to catch the sunset celebration, at lease once, at Mallory Square. But after that, the Top is the place--the island view is great!

I've never stayed there, but it definitely looks like a nice hotel and the rooftop has fantastic views. The hotel is about mid-Duval St and in a great location for all the action.

I stay at B&B's in Key West, but, there's nothing bad about La Concha. I've read that some of the rooms are small, but it's a nice place. The location is wonderful. Easy walk to anywhere in Old Town.

We stay in South Beach when we're in Miami. Not really our kind of place, but we enjoy it for a night or two. Stayed at Essex House in January when we were there overnight.

You'll like La Concha however the pool is tiny. Great location on Duval Street.

The night you fly in, I'd check out the Doubletree Coconut Grove or somewhere close to the Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.

It will give you a great feel for Miami without having to trek out to Miami Beach or without having to stay at an airport hotel.

Either Florida City or Homestead would be more convenient but nothing really to do.

We are doing the same trip in December. we decided on the Sofitel since we have a late flight into Miami. It is close to the airport and if we can get the car at 11:05 PM we should be set to head out. If not they do have a shuttle so this is the plan after lots of web searching!

Thank you for all responses. I am happy to hear our hotel in Key West is a good location and will definitely check out the rooftop bar for sunset. I will look into all Miami suggestions at well.

If you think you'd like South Beach, the Cardozo is a nice little boutique hotel that is not too pricey and close to The Delano, etc.
