MIA to Marco Island?
Hi.
We will be travelling by car from Miami International Airport to Marco Island with 2 small children and therefore, I need the fastest route!
Can anyone give me directions?
Mapquest advises to take Tamiami Trail East -is this the same as Highway US41? They also say that the drive should take 2 1/2 hours. I thought that it was more like a 1 1/2 hour trip.
Thanks.

Tamiami Trail is 41. You may be able to go somewhat faster on the turnpike, but you will loose time in making a circle. So for Marco Island, I would say that's the best way.
It's 100 miles from MIA to Marco so I would say under 2 hours is very doable.
Have a great trip!

Yes wow, it is too late. We have chosen to fly on some airline miles that we have saved, and I'm afraid that the airline could/would not open up any seats for us to RSW (Fort Myers).

Going to Naples I have gone north from Miami airport to I-75 and across the state that way (Alligator Alley). I've also gone along the south side of the airport east to the Turnpike, a very short jog south on the Turnpike to US 41 and across that way. I really do prefer the latter! And yes, US 41 and Tamiami Trail (East) is the same thing.
Unless you get hung up in really heavy traffic right around the Miami airport or stop along the way to look at the alligators lining the road, 2 hours should be maximum.

You didn't say when you were traveling, but if it is December 18th or later, there will be a new air service between Naples & Miami. I believe the cost is around $150/per person, and there are around four flights a day. They are also flying into Key West beginning on the same date. I read about this in yesterday's online version of Naples Daily Snooze err.... News.
